....Requests

Requests, broken links, re-ups and related topics go here. It may be easier for admins to be attentive to these topics if they are put here and not under the individual posts. There's no guarantee that we may be able to respond to everything, but we'll give it a try.

I've deleted the previous 'Requests' post as it was becoming a bit unwieldy.
I shall start the requests with the last one from the previous thread.

@ Newk I have a lossy 256mp3 rip, let me know if you are interested.

@magogiallo That works for me! As long as I get to hear an album I haven't heard in years, I'm not too fussy about it being higher quality.

Thanks so much! I'd forgotten how much of a Dolphy influence there is on a couple of the tracks. I love Geri Allen on here. Fred Hopkins is always wonderful, too.

I'm searching for a new rip of this post:
http://inconstantsol.blogspot.com/2013/04/wolfgang-dauner-eberhard-weber-jurgen.html
Obviously Nick posted it first but I don't think that it is his rip that is actually available. The actual version have an awful sound so if someone can provide a new rip it would be great, thanks in advance.
New rip also appreciated by Ernst

@Trabukko59
Could you check in your archives if you have another version of "I feel sexy" by Giorgio Buratti? The one you have posted has obviously the same source as the one posted by mr Buratti ten years ago on his youtube channel, the only difference is that on the version you have posted here, a dolby system have been used and the highest frequencies have been damaged. I have tried to manage it but even if the result is not too bad, it is still not satisfying to my ears. I suppose that another version without the dolby treatment exist, I don't know if you have it.
I'm in touch with Mrs Susanna Buratti and she explained that some years ago her father have received a proposal to reissue his music but he obviously refused. Susanna seems to be a very nice person and I will try again to make a positive influence, his father doesn't speak english so the direct exchange is not possible. I remember that some years ago when first i tried to persuade saxophonist and clarinetist LD Levy to reissue his music even only in digital, he first refused but finally some month after put two of his lp on bandcamp, so let's hope I will finish to get it with mr Buratti also.

Was wondering if there is a possibility of a reup of this
https://inconstantsol.blogspot.com/2018/02/detail-plus-way-it-goesdance-of-soul.html

I must have missed it when it was posted. I have been trying to get this album for some time. I contacted Frode, he didn't have any and he thought Impetus might still have a few. He gave me an address to get a hold of them, but they never replied. And I waited quite a while.
Any help would be appreciated. This is the only Detail recording that I have never heard..... and with Bradford to boot!
Thanks

Sorry AlexinSolex - I've removed the link for Mama Lapato. The LP is still available from the label.
http://www.beadrecordssp.com/lps/

Plus: correct silence already has a rip of the LP.

correct silence said...

@Ernst
I don't have Mamalapato lp and I'm not hurry to have it. Corbett vs dampsey have started a reissue program of this label with first an lp of Philipp Wachsmann. They have planned the duet Ashbury/Stabbins but finally not published it yet. I don't know if it is just a delay or if they have finally decided to cancel the program but personally I will wait for some month to see if there is an official reissue.
Regarding the duet Miller/malfati I can rip it from the box set of Harry Miller but it will take a while, the box set is not at my usual home at the moment, one or two weeks maybe so if someone is not faster I will post it later.

I'm more interested by Bobby Few than by Doyle and from what I have heard the playing of the band is difficult due to the very unconventional playing of Doyle and the fact that obviously he don't really listen to the rest of the band when he plays.

This afternoon I was listening to a cdr burnt from Nick's post of Jon Rose relative string music and I was totally blown away by the sound of this instrument and the stéréo effect of the sound. So I checked Jon Rose fringe benefit catalogue and I found several possibly interesting titles that could be posted if you have them Nick.
First is this intriguing one
https://www.discogs.com/fr/Jon-Rose-Dont-Panic/release/15906534

I wonder how a 19 string violin can sounds?

This one for the full band :
https://www.discogs.com/fr/Jon-Rose-Michael-Tinney-John-Gillies-Slawterhaus-3/release/14954968

and finally I thought that at this time if Jon Rose have played with Sarangi he have obviously never played with Esraj who is another string instrument from North India but less famous than the sarangi. But I found this final recording where he plays an amplified cello that in his hand can sound closely to an esraj https://www.discogs.com/fr/Jon-Rose-Devils-And-Angels/release/726886

this last one seems totally crazy with using of reverberation... If one or more of those titles can be featured here it would be very nice.

While exploring Jon Rose' discography I found this tape with a totally exciting line up but it is probably very difficult to find a rip:
https://www.discogs.com/fr/Jon-Rose-Luc-Houtkamp-Leo-Cuypers-Jan-den-Boer-Dutch-Trumpet-Music/release/17025849
I don't know if Nick or someone else have this tape but if yes it might be a treasure. Also can someone make some suggestion on the later discography of Jon Rose, I mean after he stopped Fringe Benefit. His discography is very big and it is nearly impossible to find an entry. Obviously in the more recent times he have turned his interest into very experimental music. if someone can recommend some cd in a more free jazz or impro oriented it will be welcome, thanks in advance.

@brian, just keep in mind this is one of the many, MANY fake FLACs from that blog. Spectral analysis shows this to be 128-160kbps.

The blog owner, I forget his name, has in the last two years taken the harsh criticism to heart and has posted real FLACs, but this one is not real.

correct silence said...

@Brian
thank you for the link but as said Mike, almost all the post done by Vitko on his blog are not lossless and most are also stollen from others blogs or from russian download places. Each one choose what he want to do but personally I reject all of the posts made by a guy who is so poor in term of human being

correct silence said...

...also if you read the description this rip comes from the byg pressing. Almost all the savoy lp reissued by byg have basically a bad sound due to the fact that the byg pressing were cheap in term of quality. If we consider that a rip of an lp is not a remastering of the source it is better when it is possible to do this rip from the best source as possible. In that case the original pressing (savoy) should be better. My experience of this series is that the savoy pressings of this period where good. You can check the rip of Ed Curran or Robert Pozar available on this blog that have been done perfectly. A same quality rip for this fantastic lp would be great.

it have been previously posted here but the file is in mp3 and the sound of the rip is not good, so a complete new rip would be appreciated.

correct silence said...

Hi Trabukko59
thank you for this update but unfortunately it is the exact same version as the original post. It is an mp3 at 256 and with an horrible sound, consequence of the using of a cleaner program during the transfer that have strongly degraded all the medium and high frequencies. A complete new rip if someone have the lp would be great, without using any cleaner program of course. Those software are mostly totally shit, except the professional ones. But even a professional sound cleaner software needs from the user some ability to find a compromise between what we want to remove and what we don't want to loose in term of dynamic and frequencies.

trabukko.59 said...

@ correct silence - I'm sorry. I didn't know the record. I got the files from a friend. Listening not very convincing, but looking at the spectrum it looked like genuine lossless. I'll remove the link. Greetings

correct silence said...

@Trabukko59
Perhaps you can leave the link. The preview link posted by Miloo at ULOZTO is still working but it seems that some people have some problems to download at ULOZTO, so your link can be an alternative for the ones who are interested by this version.

trabukko.59 said...

@correct silence - OK. Let's keep it.

correct silence said...

@Trabukko
I confirm that the file is an mp3, I have checked the spectrogram and it climb only at 21 KHZ, so it is really the one previously posted by Miloo2

trabukko.59 said...

@ correct silence - I absolutely do not question what you say. I am not an expert. As usual, I looked at the files with "SPEK" which reports 22.1kHz ... Maybe it's not reliable, what software would you recommend? Thank you

correct silence said...

@Trabukko
It is a friend of mine who do the spectral analysis but due to the fact that he works as a sound engineer at radio France, he use one of the programs developed for radio France. They have created their own software for sound treatment, mixing etc. Mike have previously recommended a free software that is probably reliable but I can't find the name right now. When I want to edit some simple sounds I use audacity and there is a spectral analysis included in it but I think it is useless for you to download audacity only for the spectral analysis. If Mike read this exchange he can give again the name of the software he use.

trabukko.59 said...

@ correct silence - OK. However I try to read up a bit and examine some files with different programs, because the topic intrigued me. Thank you.

@ mike - Thanks for the info. I also use Spek, albeit in the Windows version. I have always trusted and it shows Fish Face tracks as lossless. The Rip is not mine. I only have this version in the archive and not the MP3 one, so I can't make comparisons ... Greetings

correct silence said...

@Mike and Trabukko
I haven't checked by myself but sent the files to a friend of mine, sound engineer as I said. I don't think I have sent him the mp3 version but I can't be absolutely sure due to the fact that the mp3 previously posted here comes from the same source. One thing that is sure is that on those files a sound compressor have been used or is it the sound card of the computer that received the sound that is very bad. The sound dynamic of the lp have been largely damaged. I think if both of you see that it is a lossless you may be right perhaps I have sent the wrong file.

correct silence said...

I have found on youtube a rip of only the side a of Fish Face, it is probably a lossy version but it have been ripped without compression. It is interesting to compare both versions, the one we have on the blog ripped with a software cleaner and the one on youtube available here
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hYRV1qG69NA
ripped without any software. If you listen with a very good headphones or very good hi fi system you can notice that the youtube version is more clear, the dynamic is stronger and the treble sounds of the trumpet and the drums is better. The difference is slight but on a high level sound system you can hear the damages caused on the frequencies when that kind of software have been used.

trabukko.59 said...

@ correct silence - Thank you ! I will try to compare the files. For me this is not a discussion to understand who is right, but simply to share experiences that allow us to enjoy the music we love to the fullest ... Greetings

Hello
Still searching for a good rip of
Marc Levin The Dragon Suite
if possible coming from the original savoy pressing.
The first byg edition who was published in a gatefold cover is in mono with a poor dynamic, the second version who was presented in a normal cover is obviously in stéréo, it is published under the name : Marc Levin and his free unit.
So the Savoy original us pressing is the best source for a rip

thanks in advance.

@Trabukko59
thank you for the Marc Levin, in fact I'm about to find someone who will rip this album from the original savoy pressing. Funny thing about this lp, there is a slight difference between the original savoy and the byg reissue. There is what we can call a bonus track on the byg reissue, it is the first track of the side b "the rainbow" that clock only 30 s. It is featured on the track listing of the savoy lp also but it is not on the lp. This track is in fact a short extract of the title "morning colours" that open the side a.
we talked in the past about Giorgio Buratti also. In fact I already have the 3 that you posted. Explosion/four tunes for a waltz and my soul in performance have been posted in the past on a blog that doesn't exist anymore (I can't remember the name). Don't bother me I found a rip few weeks ago, because a friend of mine bought the lp and transferred it. I downloaded your version to compare both sounds and I noticed that you made a mistake on your rip, the side b is in fact the side a and the side a is the side b.
If you can have others rips of Buratti it will be great.

trabukko.59 said...

@ correct silence - Thanks for pointing out the side swap in the Don't Bother Me upload, but messing "round about midnight" can happen ... I have already corrected it. If I get more Buratti rips, I will gladly share them.

@German
I don't have instagram, that is why I haven't noticed it. In the past I tried to ask few people to rip some lp that they supposed to have but I have stopped. In many case people haven't got the equipment to do it and when some have, in most case due to the fact that they never done it before, the rip have a bad quality. The lp used is not clean or not in good conditions or the sound of the transfer is very bad. I remember once, a very nice guy who transferred the Martin Van Duynhoven Percussion ensemble with a high quality turn table and ampli, he did it in 24 bit / 96 KHZ, but his lp was full of surface noises. Due to the fact that there are many quiet moments during this recording, in many times you could hear more surface noise than music.
Thank you for the update on the Saeb Sarbib but do you have the lossless version or only the mp3 ?

@German
The rule of this blog is never posting music that is still available in the market as a new product, it is the case for this cd that is still available at emanem disc as I mentioned.
@Trabukko
yes the people band was a very interesting collective that share some musical point of view with the spontaneous music ensemble of the same period, notably in the fact that professional and non professional musicians can share the stage. This was the period when movements like fluxus were trying to think about the process of creation.
The reissue of the first lp by the people band done by Martin Davidson on Emanem is interesting in the fact that it is the full unedited session, longer than the original lp and longer than the second reissue done by "prog temple"
The second double cd of the People band on the same label is also very interesting, all archival recordings from 1969.
There is also a double cd about George Khan with Terry Day (two influential members of the collective) titled "ah" that I recommend.
Last but not least there is a recent cd live at the cafe oto about the people band, it is great too even if I regret that all tracks are edited versions, but it is better than nothing.

The posting didn't get a lot of traction last time, but Raphe Malik is a masterful trumpet player who did not get the number of quality recordings as a leader his talent deserved (are we talking creative music/jazz? how unusual) Glenn Spearmann also an undersung artist.
