Urs Blöchlinger - Just The One - Plainisphare 1993 or 1994

I don’t know if this cd have been really distributed. Obviously it have been released by the label Plainisphare that had a good distribution but this record is referenced nowhere and the only occurrence that can be found on the internet about it is this article by Jon Corbet, nothing else.

The packaging seems also more like a promotional one than a commercial one. The cd is inside a transparent slim case and part of the informations is written on the case, part on the disc. There is no recording date but in relations with the informations that I have about the artist, I think that this have been recorded in late 1993, early 1994. At this time urs Blöchlinger was playing with the band No Secrets In The Family and the drummer of this band, Martin Gantenbein is the producer of this enigmatic cd.

Kutteldaddeldu - Live In Lausanne - Plainisphare 1990

Since I discovered Swiss saxophonist Urs Blöchlinger I’ve been immediately interested by his music. His ability in improvisation and his knowledge and mastery of several styles of music including contemporary but also European tradition and his way to integrate those elements in his music is simply amazing. So no surprise that after this discovery of a true genius I wanted to get more of his discography as a leader but also as a side man. This album is one of those that I picked up during my trip in his too short career. On this record Blöchlinger share the stage with Jacques Demierre and Olivier Magnenat. Demierre have an important discography and have played with musicians like Barry Guy, Isabelle Duthoit, Urs Leimgruber to name a few. Swiss bassist Olivier Magnenat have unfortunately a smaller discography and mostly recorded with Swiss musicians like François Chevrolet or Peter Schärli.
This is a live recording based on elaborate compositions where ostinatos are mixed with introspectives and more fiery moments.

The only recommandation that I can give you is to search in this blog where you can find almost all of Blöchlinger’s discography recently updated by Mew23. All of his records available here are superbes. Beside his interest in jazz, contemporary music and European tradition, Blöchlinger was also interested in rock. He shared the stage and the studio with « No Secret In The Family » and few month before his death he was member of an incredible band called « Heilige Bimbam » that mixed, free, funk and rock in a complete unique style, others members of « heilige Bimbam » included musicians of « No Secret In The Family » but also Urs Voerkel, another musician who left us too fast.

URS BLÖCHLINGER TRIO "LIVE - AESTHETIK ALS WIDERSTAND" (PLAINISPHARE, 1982)

A wonderful, very (to my ears ) AACM influenced , double LP by Swiss Composer multi instrumentalist Urs Blöchlinger ... i have to confess almost total ignorance regarding his work ,

the only other thing i have even heard him on ... (played to me by a friend years ago ) is a Hat -Hut double lp called Lunatico under Werner Ludi's name , Blöchlinger from memory only played on a few pieces.

This live performance is very fine ... Emphasising mostly Blöchlinger's own compositions, though there is a surprise by way of an exellent cover of the Art Ensemble of Chicago's Ancestral Meditations on which Blöchlinger plays some meaty Bass Sax.

The pieces alternate , angular post AACM free bop with ethno flavoured compositions, and free improvisation. Side 4 is a concrete like tape montage featuring Blöchlinger improvising through out.

The inventive bass and drums of Thomas Dürst and Thomas Hiestand, provide much more than mere rhythmic support, Thomas Dürst's 'Fifi and the heartbreakers' also featuring Blöchlingers masterful bass sax is one of the highlights ..

To my Knowledge this has never been reissued , and is not listed in Planisphare's recent Catalogue's .. a pity, indeed not much Blöchlinger seems readily available ..
