....Requests

Requests, broken links, re-ups and related topics go here. It may be easier for admins to be attentive to these topics if they are put here and not under the individual posts. There's no guarantee that we may be able to respond to everything, but we'll give it a try.

I've deleted the previous 'Requests' post as it was becoming a bit unwieldy.
I shall start the requests with the last one from the previous thread.

Hi!
Does anyone has this available to share?
Peter Kowald, Erich Stach : The Abandonment of Everything Superfluous
I would really appreciate.

Sincerely

I add my request to the preview one but for all kind of recordings by Eric Stach who made obviously only one lp under his name and who seems to have a band with various musicians called free music unit, so if someone have some recordings in general by Eric Stach they would be welcome. I heard him only in the London Experimental Jazz QT and it is clear that he is a great musician

Ernst Grgo Nebhuth said...

@JRAC and @correct silence - here at IS I've posted a recording with Eric Stach with a.o. Peter Kowald.
https://inconstantsol.blogspot.com/2018/03/peter-kowald-members-of-shim-key-largo.html
The link is still working.

Unfortunately I do not have "The Abandonment of Everything Superfluous".

I should start to use the search engine of the blog but sometimes I have the brain of an oyster, so thank to come to my rescue :)

@JRAC - here's what i grabbed long ago
Peter Kowald, Eric Stach, Doug Innis -
The Abandonment of Everything Superfluous (2000)
https://1fichier.com/?vsad7h5v2rr25lte56ms (mp3@128)

The CD rip was provided by blogger jazzme with Eric Stach's permission and was posted at 'folly for to see what' in April 2008 and at katonah's Private Press in February 2009. The former post is included in MHT and text format. Thanks to Eric Stach and jazzme.

In reference to "https://inconstantsol.blogspot.com/2018/03/peter-kowald-members-of-shim-key-largo.html" - For information, I wanted to clarify that these are not lossless files. Greetings

correct silence said...

@Trabukko59
Thank for the information. Listening to this recording I had the feeling that there was very few dynamic, particularly on the bass of Kowald but first I thought it was due to the recording that have been made in the audience. Perhaps it is also partly due to the bitrate, i haven't tested it but if it is an mp3 with a low bitrate it might also have destroyed a bit the dynamic. I'm trying to get in touch with Mr Stach, don't know if he is still alive. I have sent an email to one guitar player who is supposed to know Mr Stach but I haven't received reply yet, let's hope.
it is incredible that this high quality musician have so few records. If someone have his lp on cbc and can rip it it would be great.

correct silence said...

My mistake, the lp of Eric Stach is not published on cbc but on radio Canada international

correct silence said...

@Jeff
The two André Jaume that you have requested won't normally be re-posted, they will be reissued by souffle continu records. They have now all the rights to reissue almost all the palm catalogue. 5 titles are already available:
At Newport by Jef Gilson
-Madagascar Now by Sylvain Marc
-Malagasi by Jef GIlson
-Watch Devil go by Jacques Thollot
-Capon/Maté/Butch-MOrris/Rahoerson
https://soufflecontinurecords.bandcamp.com
the two next titles that will be reissued in the early 2022 will be
-Une bien curieuse planète by François Janneau
-Workshop by Philippe Maté & Jef Gilson

All the rest will come in the following month or years even the foreign artists of the catalogue like Byard Lancaster, David S wWare or Frank Lowe
Two titles presents a bit more difficulties to be reissue:
Orange Fish Tears by Baikida Carroll
-Give the vibes some by Khan Jamal
question of rights but I know the two boss of the label and they work hard to reissue also those two titles. So I think it should be better to remove all the palm links in a near future.

@admins @all I have a request. To honor this blog and Marc the blog founder I request that the front page be cleaned up. The dates on recent posts are wrong. Most of the links to other blogs are to blogs that haven't shared anything in years and all the links are dead, there's other great blogs that can replace them. Most of the links to activist sites are dead, there's other leftist sites that can replace them. I haven't talked to Marc in a while but I'm certain he would appreciate all of my requests. Cheers :)

Ernst Grgo Nebhuth said...

Hello correct silence - this album does not exist, definitely.

I got the infos from Oliver Schwerdt (pupil of Sommer and author of the really very big autobiography about Sommer). Scherdt went to Sommer's archive and talked with Sommer about the LP in question.
Sommer does not know anything about this LP. Actually he has played once with Braxton but this was never released. He did play once with Mariano but in a trio with Barre Phillips. This trio played once in Wuppertal but never in Paris. Actually the date of recording must be incorrect. There is no November 31 - November has only 30 days.
Sommer does never have heard about a place in Paris called "Foie Gras".
Schwerdt / Sommer meant that if this LP ever was released maybe the drummer was falsely named - this happens. All this is not only from Sommer's memory but also from the notes he has in the archive.
And I did also a look at the websites of Joe Fonda and Aki Takasa - but no mention of this LP.
Checked also the discographies of Tom Lord and Bruyninckx but I've found no entry.

And some time later I got more infos:
Aki Takase also says that she never recorded this session / LP.
It is obviously a fake. The origin of this fake is the website of Charlie Mariano's daughter. She also does not have this LP although she believes that this LP does exist (she seems to be the only one who believes in the existence of this vinyl - from all persons more or less involved [as far as asked about it]).
And not at least: this would be quite a long LP with more than 60 minutes (not impossible but ...)
As a last statement I would like to add: I certainly would appreciate if this LP would exist at all.

@Trabukko59 many many thanks for the massive transfer of the Hüseyin Ertunç, I have already listened to the first and second part and it is really great, Fantastic!

it would be suitable if more people feel concerned by the request. It is always the same person who answer to the request, less than 10 person in general. if most of the followers consider that they are here only for taking and not giving, maybe we can consider to share music only with the few persons who really participate.

correct silence said...

That is not my opinion, in some case it is better nothing that low quality files. When you have many music at home, it is the case for most of us, it is useless to run after low quality files. Another reason is that I'm part of the few people who denounced the lies of this guy and the fraud of his blog, what would it mean if now I accept something coming from him.
Normally everyone would have boycotted his blog, but apparently there are a lot of people who accept being taken for idiots, that is not the case for me.

I fully agree here. Over at Darker Shade its even worse. People expect to be spoon-fed everything.

Rev. bIGhIG said...

“ in some case it is better nothing that low quality files. When you have many music at home, it is the case for most of us, it is useless to run after low quality files.”
Who is “running” after low quality files? Most of us are searching for music we love. And if it reads Low Bitrate on some app, but your ears couldn’t tell you so, you’re too busy being an audio engineer as opposed to being a lover of music.
We all have our Holy Grail unfindable albums. If it finally appeared somewhere after years of searching, would you rejoice or run it through the app for your big gotcha! Moment then hit delete? Let’s say I’m broke and busted on the street and someone gives me a five, should I reject it because it’s not a ten? That would make me the idiot, no?
From all of us “spoon-fed” types at DSoB (who keep saying no-thanks to Israbox), what exactly are we being “spoon-fed” ? Music? Conversation? Comradery?

@Rev Bighig
I was talking about idiots by naming all those who after Vitko's lies were exposed, continue to follow his blog and even thank him for the excellent sounds and celebrate his huge collection of records. They even go so far as to prostrate themselves at him since, stopping at nothing to fill his narcissistic flaw, he now asks to write to him to obtain the precious download link. But we have to believe that the masochistic component is more often found among so-called music lovers.
Your comparison is ridiculous, you probably use t because you feel concerned wit what I say. In this case it is better either to assume, or to ask oneself why one does not assume.
Look at Mike, he totally assumes, as soon as we talk about darker shade of blue, he runs to ask for the link, and it's very good like that. He's not ashamed to try to salvage as much music as possible.
In fact the great period of blogging is over, inconstant sol is the last survivor but most of the contributors no longer contribute, this is my case, I stopped contributing a while ago, I just happen to reposting old titles but nothing new. In fact I’m not interested by people like you, the arrival of people like you in the blog world makes me want to stop sharing music. I keep on doing it but privately with people who are newsworthy. Finally Vitko is right, he understood that the public has changed and that now most of those who follow blogs do not have any requirements at the blogs and at themselves, your comment is proof of that.

Rev. bIGhIG said...

@ correct silence
"your comment is proof of that."

As is yours.

mike said...

Reverend, sadly there is no "ignore" function on blogs, but you'll soon learn to ignore him soon enough. Not sure what is the issue with correct silence - perhaps his mother did not love him as a child - but he brings his baggage (and plenty of it) here to this blog.

Do not fret, however, as mentioned he becomes very easy to ignore.

correct silence said...

@Mike
Obviously it seem difficult for you to ignoring me since you answer me; if only it was the first time that you approached the ridiculous... Since you venture to make assumptions about my relationship with my mother, which would justify that I request and obtain the withdrawal of your comment, I prefer to ask you since you seem know psychoanalysis, what school of thought do you claim to be, Freud, Lacan or perhaps Mélanie Klein?
But maybe the many hours you're going to spend at "a darker shade of blue" won't leave you time to read all the authors I recommend and who would finally allow you to know what you're talking about.

Rev. bIGhIG said...

@mike,
Got the message. I’ve not had much experience with correct silence, but prior to “hitting the ignore button”, I’ll agree with him only on the mother comment. You might want to take it down. Don’t stoop to such references in hopeless arguments, please. We all love our moms. Even my ever crabby one (RIP).
My one oft-repeated bit counting gripe comes from early pre-internet listening to LPs, 45s, and cassettes, when we’d all never heard of bits, we just enjoyed music. Even on tinny car radios and AM pocket radios. And now I wonder how many of us listen on lo-fi computer speakers and smart phones, which are equally far from audiophile systems. Do bits even matter there? If you’ve built a high-end home component system and have “golden ears”, I guess it might. But I’ve seen trained, professional musicians who fail to pick out FLACs over MP3s in serious A/B listening tests in recording studios. I fall in that category. But it’s never diminished my love of listening to music it all its presentations. And if I ever find my few “holy grail” wants, I’ll be happy even if they’re on Edison cylinders.
Peace, my friends.

In the past there have sometimes been heated discussions and I have participated in some of them. But this is the first time in the history of this blog that a person dares to refer to a person totally outside this microcosm, a person from my family in this case. Mike has therefore written a new chapter in the history of this blog, the most pathetic, confirming well beyond what I wrote above, that things have indeed changed and that they are going in the sense of total mediocrity.

trabbuko.59 and @correct silence - According to Rick Lopez's excellent discography of Sam Rivers, the personnel is a little different, as below. Cheers!
+++++++++

Sam Rivers, Kalaparusha Maurice McIntyre, Byard Lancaster, Chico Freeman, Rene McLean (reeds), Frank Gordon, Ahmed Abdullah, Youseff Yancey (tp), George Lewis (tb, tu)
Charles Stephens (tb), (frh), Joe Daley (tu), Don Pullen (p), Abdul Wadud (ce), Brian Smith, Dave Holland (ce, b), Barry Altschul, Charlie Persip (dr)

On the recording in circulation, "Youseff Chauncey" is incorrectly credited on french horn, and George Adams is incorrectly listed on sax instead of Chico Freeman. "How do I know? I was very fortunately there." —Ahmed Abdullah

trabukko.59 said...

@JazzHound - Thanks for the info. Yes, a real fortune ...

correct silence said...

@Trabukko59
Volumeselector have already provided the music in the contribution section, thanks.
@jazzhound
The line up included in Volumeselector's file and the one on Rick Lopez's discography are the same and both have one mistake and perhaps two. There is no piano in the music so the credit of Don Pullen might be wrong. Also I'm not sure that there is a tuba player so perhaps Joe Daley is also not on the recording. For Daley I'm not so sure because sometimes when all the horns are playing it is nearly impossible to catch all the instruments but regarding Don Pullen, it is sure that there is no piano. So my interrogation was not about Rick Lopez's discography but on the question of this mistake. There is a preview show two or three days before at the Nancy jazz pulsation festival with the same line up and I would prospect if someone have some details in the fact that perhaps some musicians have left the band between the two shows. it happens sometimes when some musicians have some contracts, the line up during a tour can change. But obviously nobody have the information. In my memory there was not always a pianist in the Sam Rivers orchestra.

Firstly I care about this blog. I've been wondering why all the dates on all the posts on the main page are wrong and why those haven't been fixed? I'm friends with the original blog owner and have been a part of IS community since 2008 and this is a new chapter for the blog. Cheers :)

Ernst Grgo Nebhuth said...

Tha dates for the recent posts are wrong because Blooger has changed the way how posts are submitted. Before this change it was possible to post new music without jumping to the top. Once a year we simply changed the date for the posts on top. I'm referring to the posts "What a long strange trip + Free Form + Newlinks for old posts + contributions + requests".
If we want to remain those posts on top of the main page it is necessary to change the date of the other posts.
This is annoying. But up to now Blogger wasn't inclined to amend/remove this new unwanted "feature".

Nick said...

Hi - we can get those four sections as links on the top right, if we add a Popular Posts gadget - since they're the top four popular posts. They could drift down the pages as long as people can link to them from the front page. I've set it temporarily, but the problem is that the headings aren't formatted correctly. The widths could be reformatted in the layout - but I am not sure how well the restore function will work if it is needed.

Ernst Grgo Nebhuth said...

Hi Nick - yes that's a good idea IMHO. I do not know how to change the width but I managed to move the headers for thses posts a bit to the right (with using four "."). So now they're visible completely. Hope that's fine this way!?
Shall we move the most top header "What a long strage trip" also to the popular posts gadget?
If so I ask to you to do it. I did not find the trick for it.

Nick said...

Hi - if we update the date for what a long strange trip when a new post is added, it will stay at the top, then the new post will be second and the links to enter requests, contributions, free form and new links for old posts will be on the top right, without having to update the dates for those every time a new post is added

Hi
I'm searching for a lossless (if possible) rip of Byron & Gerald - Unity

thank in advance.

Correct Silence - the Byron Morris & Gerald Wise - Unity you are looking for appears to be in print and available from the eremite website: https://eremite.com/album/mte-66

correct silence said...

@Jazzhound
I wasn't sure of this but you are maybe right. In fact I don't have no more turn table at home, that is why I search for a digital version, that is also why I suggest to write me directly and not posting a link on the blog. That is also why I suggest a trade if someone can rip the lp. Maybe 2 or 3 years ago I got in touch with Michael Hayler who produced the reissue to ask him for a digital version. AT first he told me that he will perhaps make it available on the bandcamp store of Eremite but finally it never comes and it will probably never come. I think Hayler is more interested to reissue on high quality lp than on digital even if for his more recent reissue (Brotzmann, Parker, Graves) he made it available on digital. Perhaps he considered finally my request but only for his future releases.

JazzHound said...

correct silence - gotcha. problematic for those who have transitioned to all digital. also, I have problems with overpriced vinyl only reissues... does this really serve the general listening public or only the more monetarily enabled? conversely, perhaps a way for some smaller projects to stay afloat, riding on the resurging love of vinyl wave.

re: eremite and Michael Ehlers, my sense is it's a one person (man) operation so it may be more difficult for Michael to respond to individual requests while still moving ahead with projects. I find the label of particular value because it does not follow normal capitalistic imperatives. I expect Michael does not move a massive number of units, instead mostly following the paths his ears have led him, whether for new or reissue material. This has allowed for some treasured releases - in particular by Jemeel Moondoc, Raphe Malik and Glenn Spearman.

good luck on your continued search.

Noissessprahs said...

@trabukko.59 thank you for removing the link, I should've checked up on the record's availability beforehand, I'm glad that some of Spearman's records are appearing on streaming for easier access. One of the greatest tenor saxophonists in free jazz in my opinion, all of the Eremite releases he appears on in particular are some of my favorite jazz recordings.

Ernst Grgo Nebhuth said...

@abic - I was the one removing the link after I saw the thread. Now the "problem" for correct silence is solved. Cheers

trabukko.59 said...

@abic - Yes, I agree, Spearman was an excellent tenor sax, unfortunately not appreciated enough. In addition to the unmissable recordings on Eremite, if you don't know him, I recommend listening to "Blues For Falasha" on Tzadik.
I reported the availability of "Night After Night" on digital platforms, Ernst rightly thought about removing the link. A greeting
