The story of this cd is special. Gibran have recorded with Ciro Baptistat and Trevor Watts but most of the music have been lost in a hard disk crash, the few music that have been rescued is not the one that should be previously published but it is the only survival of the session, you may be interested by this.

BTW - Michel Pilz told me some weeks ago that Cognard plans to release another recording with Pilz and Tipppett (don't know the other musicians - but certainly Cognard will be also on the upcoming release).

In fact Jean Noël reached Keith Tippett few weeks before he passed away because he wanted to do a new recording with him and others musicians (he didn't have exact names at this time). But finally keith Tippett passed away. I talked with jean Noël few days after and I suggested him some musicians. jean Noël like to play with his hero, mostly musicians from the seventies and mostly europeans but many are dead or very old. I suggested him Howard Riley who could be a very good pianist in place of Keith Tippett, surely if he have the opportunity to record a new album, Michel Pilz will be on board, they are good friends and good musical partners. But I think that due to the covid and the fact that Jean Noël always try to record on studio and on stage, this project will be delayed. We haven't talked together for a while.

this concert of Miles Davis features french guitarist Dominique Gaumont who passed away at age 30 in 1983, he played on two records with Miles Davis "dark magus" and "get up with it". He also played with the black artist group in 1973 at Chateau vallon and he is also featured on the spirit of St Louis by the Human Art Ensemble A bootleg double cd of this Miles Davis live + the Human Art Ensemble have been briefly published in japan many years ago.
Dominique Gaumont's family have issued a posthumous compilation of recordings in the spirit of the Miles davis from this time that can be found here:

Yesterday I have played a record that I haven't played for a long time and I re discover that it is a very fine record that I should recommend because it is absolutely not famous. This is the only lp (reissued on cd) recorded by Toronto saxophonist Brian Barley who died at age 29. he have previously recorded with Mainard Ferguson and Pierre Leduc but this trio is really great and show a very talented musician with a strong potential that unfortunately have never been:

After Nick’s recommandation on Jon Rose’s website to find some sides of his early recordings on Fringe Benefit that I haven’t yet found on his web. But I have found something else that is very touching and admirable. Some years ago Jon Rose have decided to use the fences as an instrument but also of course to point out the conflicts, abuses or injustices. I have the 1980-11-01 only and it is a great one. That version of Miss Nancy is bouncin'! after the song, Blythe, "I wrote that for my Mother. (laughs) She's that kind of lady." I love that! Wadud is all over it. This was a great quartet.
Mine only has a radio introduction, then Miss Nancy and Odessa. Looking froward to hearing more from this (possibly) and material from the next night!

thanks for the info. The problem with this ezztetic series is that in most case the reissues are compilations, for exemple the cd of Marion Brown "From capricorn moon to juba lee" is not containing both lp, it is not the case with the second Marion Brown that contains both why not and porto novo. So if the project is to reissue both Mike Taylor on one cd, I think it will be a compilation, pity when you consider the high quality of those two lp.

Here is a very intriguing record for those who search for something a bit different than the usual form of free jazz. I have just found out these on Dime: Don Cherry, Ed Blackwell, Yahya Abdul-Majid - Washington, DC January 7, 1977, Bengt Berger's Bitter Funeral Beer Band - Pori, Finland July 17, 1982 and Don Cherry, Peter Brotzmann, Fred van Hove - Han Bennink - Berlin 27 August 1971. I have no idea if in the past they had already circulated, The first two are good recordings, unfortunately the quartet is quite pourly recorded, I still have to really listen to it but sounds very interesting though. The Trio is more than one hour and half recording divided in two long improvisations and a short closure, The Funeral Beer Band is a 33 minutes impro. I will upload them if someone is interested

Unfortunately those digital versions comes directly from lp and obviously the Italian pressing of this period were not really good. So depending on the tracks there are few surface noise and some crackles in certain moments. But the music is really fantastic. All three musicians of this band had a very particular sound and it is a pity to notice that the free jazz community almost never mention them.

yes Contro is great, in fact I deeply appreciate all the 3 lp they made. Five live recordings are also available but unfortunately only in mp3 at Itunes. It's been almost one year that I contacted qobuz to suggest them to provide those five recordings in lossless but even if they reply that they will do, it never show up. I have tried again to suggest them, hopefully they will features those live in their catalogue.

He passed away on march 8. He was one of the under recognised saxophonists. He played with Gunter Hampel for long time and also in the loft period. Some of my favorite records by him where on his own "acoustic" label but they were almost not distributed unfortunately.

Normally if it is available in the regular market like amazon, it can't be shared here, even if it is only in mp3. In many case when it is available in mp3 in most places, it is available in lossless at qobuz.
Regarding what you say about some labels that doesn't exist anymore but are still available for download. Most of the time the copyrights have been transferred to a new owner. it is for exemple the case for the swiss label Evasion disques. The brand doesn't publish records since about 30 years but recently a new company has provided remastered digital version of all the catalogue. There are others exemples like this, for exemple WM Box media, the label of italian Drummer Tony Ruscony, is no more in activity but the digital versions continue to be published from archival recordings.

I'm not sure it is totally legal so I don't know about the sound quality. In this cd you have the complete second album of the Mike Taylor Trio and one track "a night in Tunisia) from the first quartet "pendulum" + 3 tracks coming from Cream for who Mike Taylor composed a bit.
This cd can be interesting in the fact that the trio is available in the complete version. The official impressed/repressed reissue from universal is now totally out of print and very hard to find and the recent lp reissue is a bootleg coming from the cd or from an mp3 version.
Unfortunately like in most case in this revisited serie, the first Pendulum lp is not reissued totally, pity because this lp is incredible. By the way the version of night in Tunisia is one crucial moment of this quartet album.
I have the CD from Mike Taylor on ezz-thetics and I would say the sound is realy good. Wether as good as the LP or first CD edition I don't know. But the music is great! And yes - it is a pity that the quartet has not seen a reissue together with the trio outing.

I recently bought "The Mike Taylor Quartet - Mandala" on Bandcamp: five songs recorded live in 1965 by the same line-up as "Pendulum" and here too there is a shorter but still intense version of "Night In Tunisia". The quality of the recording is perhaps not high, but still good for a live almost sixty years ago. In my opinion it is worth it.

yes I already have this live and mentioned it in this section previously. For a tape that wasn't made for commercial purpose, the sound is really acceptable. I just regret that the version of night in Tunisia is cut before the end but I think this is what the tape contains. it is clear that the version on the live shows that at this time the band have already done a sort of a re-writing of this standard.

for all the people who are interested in Billy Bang it has just been published Billy Bang Lucky Man an audio and video documentary about his return on the places of Vietnam war. I guess this can be consider, together with The Aftermath and Reflection, the 3rd chapter of a trilogy dedicated to his experience there.
For those who are interested, I have just received a reply from sunbeam records and the Mike Taylor QT preparation previously unreleased session will also be published on cd but not at the same time as the lp for the record store day. So stay tuned
@Magogiallo thank you for the Tapscott Trio, yes the sound is not too bad but I can ear the compression due to the fm transmission and this affect unfortunately the whole sound of the band. I think that this has been broadcasted in the nineties. Actually most FM radio have a better sound and the recorders are also better. But my ears are very sensitive :)
French label transversal disques will publish a previously unreleased concert by Archie Shepp at "la maison de la radio" from 1974. This is perhaps not so exciting as the preview period like the live at Donaueschingen Festival but it is still a good period, with Bob Reid on bass and Noel McGhie on drums, two musicians who haven't often played with Shepp. This will be on lp and on digital

The music is in the style of ESP with a live flavor and a perfect sound with high dynamic.

Clarinetist, saxophonist and flutist LD Levy is in the process of recording a new album, obviously it will be in duet with Chicago bassist Larry Gray. I don't know when it will be published, probably in several month but he have started to record.

Both these sets are quite stellar. I can't say enough about any of the players on either of these two performance. Misha, Han and Dudu. A wild and rambunctious set (as usual) from that trio. The second set is equally mouth watering. Derek Bailey, Johannes Bauer, John Zorn, Peter Kowald.

this Don Cherry live is famous and have been issued on cd in 2018, some say that the reissue is unofficial, others say that it is authorised, the music is absolutely fantastic and the sound too.
The cd version have a slightly better sound than the bootleg that is floating on the web since years, it have originally a real good sound
