TO change totally the topic, do someone know a late Cleve Pozar album titled"let's try it again? IN the eighties and nineties Pozar have changed a bit the aesthetic of his music and was less interested in avant garde so I wonder about this album where he plays bata drums? If someone knows it and can describe.

I visited the Bandcamp store of Ellen Christi and what is offering has a very poor quality.
Both digital versions of « plays Butch Morris » and « Sounds of life » are in mono and the order title of those albums have been changed from the original version. It is particularly problematic regarding « sounds of life » because originally this lp is a suite and both sides are uninterrupted. I’m sure that « plays Butch Morris » have been recorded in stereo. Regarding « sounds of life » it have been obviously originally published in mono considering the informations that I have found, that would explain why in his original post Serviceton have ripped it in mono. Last but not least the files of « sounds of life » available on Bandcamp have a continuous sound parasite behind all the tracks and both « plays Butch Morris » and « sounds of life » have a very poor dynamic… all of this for $15 in the download version and $20 for the lp. I don’t know if the lp are some original copies still available or if they have been reissued from the same material as the download, if that’s it don’t buy and get an original copy from discogs if available. For those like me who don’t have no more turn table, you can download the files updated by Magogiallo.
Alvin Batiste is not the most famous musician, but I really liked the few records available especially Musique D'Afrique Nouvelle Orleans, and the Clarinet Summit records, I have just found this short recording from 1994. Thanks to the original uploader. I hope someone enjoy it.

The aim is to make discs currently unavailable even to those who don't own them, so Mp3@320 are perfect.
Unfortunately, those who own lossless music often lose interest in buying records ...

I can hear some Cherry influeces here and there, but maybe is just me :).

@ trabukko.59, I think the most of us have the house full of records, CDs, tapes etc. if not, how could exist a blog as Incostant Sol and if they are not available on the market, I don't see which is the problem to share between music lovers. Actually didn't we already done that in the past exchanging tapes and then CDr, well at least I did it with all my friends. Of course just my opinion :). @ magogiallo. It seems to me that the blog is careful not to share currently distributed material and to stop sharing albums when they are republished.
I think this serves to encourage the purchase of records, but many who download albums in lossless quality will certainly not be interested in purchasing the original version.
The above are just considerations. Of course I agree with you on the spirit of the blog (awesome blog!).

All contributions are good but frankly MP3's sound like crap, which is why this blog and most of the community of OOP and RoIO collectors renounced MP3's 10 years ago as a policy. For instance they have no 'trade value' whatsoever with collectors and the sources of these OOP and RoIO's utterly reject MP3's. Personally I don't touch them unless there's no other option.

@ Osiris I perfectly agree with you, I avoid mp3 and use them only if I don't find something better as for the above post that I decide to upload bc I think it is quite interesting even if the rip is pretty crapy. Hopefully it can also be a way to find a lossless one :).

Maybe ' contributions' is not the right place but here is were the discussion started.
A few words again on the infinite history about mp3 and flac.
As a participant of this blog I always share music in flac, when is the rip of an album that I own, for respect to the people that prefer it in flac, while to me 320 are good as well.
I spotted a comment above by OSIRIS where is said "mp3 sound like crap".
I don't notice the difference between a 320 and a flac and like me the majority of listeners (there have been inquiries and statistic made on this issue).
From what I know, to notice the difference between a flac and a 320 you need a very expensive sound system; saying mp3 sound like crap looks an insult to all the people that cannot afford to spend some -or many- thousands euros for amplifier, speaker etc., and this is the majority of people.
The format or the music?
In one of my last post I shared "Reform Art Orchestra meets Subway Art" as a 320, no other format available. There were about 180 downloads, about the half of the usual, for an album very well recorded, while some live concert posted here and around are unavoidably of very poor sound quality, and flac cannot change this, even if the music is still worth listening.
Again the music or the format? what do you find more important?

@corvimax - thanks for those words and opinions. What is important? To me it is Music. I am trying to remaster some shared recordings, when they have in flac or even in any mp3. With rusty and dusty recordings format is irrelevant. What you hear in the end is music, if it's there.
Trabukko's commentary was not initially about the debate over the difference in sound between flac and mp3 but in the fact that to him, posting in flac would encourage people to stop buying music. This is false for at least three reasons. First, the decline of record sales began at a time when most blogs were still posting in mp3s. On the other hand there are today a few blogs that illegally provide recent or even downright new recordings and these blogs offer mostly mp3. the shabby blog « adarker shade of blue » which has even more shabby descendants mainly offer mp3 and it is obvious that many of those who frequent these shitty blogs no longer buy music. Finally the biggest sellers of music for download like iTunes or amazon, only offer mp3. It is therefore obvious that the question of format has nothing to do with civility and the intelligence of an alleged music lover who should normally understand that for music to last, it must be paid for and that the musicians or current producers have to face the same imperatives as anyone to fill their fridge or get a roof. One have to be pretty shabby as are the assiduous of a darker shade of blue or awesome… to claim to be a fan of music and steal it.
As for the eternal debate between flac and mp3, there is almost no audible difference between lossless and mp3 / 320. If we admit in addition that with age the perception of high mid frequencies deteriorates, we might think that there is no reason to hang on to the lossless. If we continue with this logic, we might think that there is also no reason to insist on having good pressing, good sound recording, etc. The amateurs of the lossless of which I am a part just want to indicate to the producers and engineers of the sound that the quality work still seduces.
LOL, FLAC sounds way better then MP3.

it depends on what kind of mp3, of course if you compare lossless with mp3 at 192 or in a less quality you will hear a difference but the difference between mp3/320 and lossless in term of high frequencies (those are the ones compressed in lossy) is very smal, less than 1 Khz if my memory is good.

Can we make this Contributions Section better? I'm doing what I can to post things that are exciting and enjoyable. In the past Sirone was a big deal on Inc Sol but I just posted his largest body of RoIO recordings with the wonderful Pharoah Sanders on his Summer 1968 tour in France and crickets. Where are the collectors who will give to this blog freely without a bunch of hot air about nonsense? This section is for contributions of RoIO's and OOP jazz and discussions about said contributions. Come on people -- we can do better. Cheers :)

You often worry about the lack of reaction about your posts here. If you want to continue posting you have to admit that the collectors you are talking about have been gradually replaced by people who fill hard drives and who for many are unable to have discussions about music because they hardly listen to what 'they download. I have been a contributor in the past and I have never failed to leave a comment on the posts that interested me. If I still leave comments I have stopped contributing and I also download significantly less because for me it is useless to store recordings that you do not have time to listen to. So I no longer download live shows that have poor sound quality. For example, one of Andy's last posts with Elton Dean, John Stevens and Barry Guy was musically absolutely great, but due to the recording quality, all of the instruments and particularly Barry Guy’s bass had a completely distorted sound. Admittedly it is a document but for my part I no longer want to store documents without exception because how often do we listen to these documents. I also prefer to have recordings of little known artists rather than having the 40th Braxton or the 30th Brotzmann. I have more fun discovering an artist like David Panton than I recently discovered rather than listening to an additional recording by a musician whose titles I already have. It's a personal point of view

I first listened to his music on I.S. so again thanks for all the passion and time some people put here on the blog. I am a bit surprised to see this kind of discussions on the blog, people use their time as they like or can, talking about me, from when I was a kid I am used to listen to many different kind of music, not only jazz or more strictly improvised music, then I love to spend as much time as I can outdoor, then I am dealing for a couple of years with a demented mom, then I have friends I love to see, then I have to work, then I also like to wonder around on the net to see if I find some music stimulates my curiosity, I.S. is one of the best place for that, but days have only 24 hours and sleep is a must too :). So guys take it easy, there are bigger problems out there. Of course just my opinion and I promise I won't talk about that anymore.

yes it is available for download but the download version have some noises in several tracks that probably comes from the digital transfer. I bought the digital version from itunes and they refunded my order. I suggested them to remove the file or to get in touch with the label, I don't know if they done it or no. I think they don't care due to the probable low level of sales of that kind of album. So I think that considering that it might be possible to share it, eventually for a limited time if Ernst is oK or if not I would be interested to have the file personally because due to the digital problems I never listen to the download version.

Patrizia Scascitelli, a pupil of Giorgio Gaslini, was 25 years old at the time of the recording and, as a trio, offers original pieces alternating with reworkings of popular themes.

All these AACM 35th anniversary shows are great. I have had these recordings for quite some time and also had the pleasure of being at the Museum of Contemporary Art for all of these shows. I also travelled up to Minnesota later that year in November to see the AACM 35th Anniversary shows at the Walker Arts Center.

I lived in Chicago for many years and always highly anticipated the annual AACM group concerts. At that point they were usually at the Museum of Contemporary Arts. Tried to attend all the nights (most of the time). Sometimes we would go up to Minneapolis to see the performances there.
Really special stuff. The big band performances and the smaller units. Always an exhilarating handful of nights.
These type of AACM performances really bring me back a few years.

I have really been digging program 5 of the AACM at Umbria.
The vocal choir introduction performance with Tomeka Reid is Absolutely Fabulous!
Mwata Bowden appears to have orchestrated the formation of this particular AACM Ensemble.
.....And the his material in leading program 5 is stunning, to say the least.
I have recently unearthed a box that has pictures and all 4 ticket stubs from the AACM 35th Anniversary at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago.
Granted the pictures are not perfect due to lighting and possibly degradation of the film itself. But still some interesting stuff.
I am going to pull them all out. Scan them, and make a file with scan of stubs to add to that file set. Cheers.

Here's the bootleg recording of the show of the American sound artist Id M Theft Able and Ukrainian free improvisation band White Blood Blue Bones that took place on November 17, 2018, at the DIY punk club in Kyiv, Ukraine. These artists teamed up for a few gigs by occasion - Scott Spear, who performs under the Id M Theft Able alias, was touring Europe around that time, and got an invitation from WBBB musicians to play together in their country, where they met at the jazz festival two years earlier. So this was Scott's last stop before he went back home. And despite some organizational inconsistencies, annoying people in the audience, financial troubles and tiredness, he did great.
Since the small popularity of improvised music in Ukraine, unlike Id M Theft Able, WBBB, being one of the very few local acts playing in that genre, only rarely face the public, and hold a status of unexplored phenomenon. Prior to their collaboration with freewheeling American improviser, they allied with a group of butoh dancers - music and dance were also woven together on that special eve...
Lineage is unknown. It may look like the source is lossy, but the shortness of frequencies is likely a result of a rough mastering job - the person who originally uploaded this stuff recorded it himself, from what is known. Although, a combination of noise reduction and compression that was evidently applied in audio processing has pretty much ruined the music, it sounds listenable on portable devices.

Thanks Osiris for this absolutely great Sun Ra with a very very good sound. Obviously the Arkestra is smaller than usual, I wonder who is the trumpet player who doesn't sounds like the usual trumpet players of the arkestra at this time. The early version of space is the place who is close to the version that the band played in Egypt in 1971 makes me think that this live is from 70 more than 69. The last track of the second cd is probably Little Sally Wacker instead of Water. It is strange that this show have never been officially released, there are so many archival of Sun Ra really worse than this one that have been released.

I have already ordered my physical copy because obviously it is in very limited quantity. One can regret that there are no old recordings from the seventies with John Stevens or with Amalgam. This box set is mostly focused on the moire music period but it was a very good band. Please note also the cd with Gibran Cervantes who invented the Urukungolo, a sort of hybrid between the berimbo and the cymbalum. Trevor told me years ago that he have meet Cervantes during a moire music tour in south America but Gibran have got a very fragile health so they never toured very much. One album have been published on FMR and I thought that it was the only recording of this band beside the Dialogos intestinale by Gibran himself but in fact this box set reveals another recording.

I have just finished to play the full concert of the Arkestra that you shared here and it is just incredible. It is surely one of the best Sun Ra recordings of all his discography. The music is fantastic, the sound is perfect and the band played with intensity during more than 3 hours. yes it is strange that this live have never been officially released, considering that the live at Le Théâtre du Chatelet from the same year have been. The Chatelet was one of my favorite but this one is much better.
I will burn some cdr to play it on my hi fi system.

@ correct silence, yes it is quite stunning, I recently downloaded it from slsk. so thanks to the original uploader, I think there are not so many Sun Ra recordings of this level around especially of this period, the band is simply amazing...Bill Cole, yes I 've got the first album shared here at IS, and one record with William Parker, but I have never listened to his own project Untempered Ensemble, it seems very interesting, I will. Thanks

In my opinion some of the most recent recordings by Joe McPhee are not so exciting but this one is great and it is a rare occasion to hear fantastic vibist Orphy Robinson.
Some years ago he was playing in a quintet (Bruised) with Tony Bevan that was really great.

Agreed. That is a great album (the McPhee). Bought that when it came out some time ago. Cafe OTO has a great store for physical and digital copies. Plus their store has an excellent marketplace for many independent labels.

Thanks for the info about Roaratorio on Cafe Oto store, I haven't noticed this. I already bought one digital that is very particular in the career of Joe McPhee: Plan B - from outer space. Unfortunately they don't have all the Roaratorio catalogue, they don't have McPhee with Konstrukt - Babylon and they also don't have Sun Ra - sign of the myth, both lp that I would really like to have in digital.
Yoruba proverb from Bill Cole is a really good record, so nice if you can get a copy.
