I haven't kept the studio recordings of Raphe Malik that I bought in the past because my feeling was that the music he recorded for his albums was very good but a bit static. Recently I got another live from him that makes me change my opinion so I've been curious about this live too. The conclusion is that this musician was really at home during live performances. This concert is great, i don't know if this band have played regularly during this period but there is a cohesive feeling. Stephen McCraven and particularly Jay Oliver are very inventive and both Malik and Spearman doesn't step into typical cliché of free jazz, both have got very good interventions. it is interesting to notice how the tradition can be heard in Malik's playing. I really can hear echoes of musicians like Lee Morgan in the soft side of his playing and Ted Curson in the more outside playing.
Thank you Ernst for this share, it is the third concert that you post and all are interesting in term of music and sound.
