Evan Parker / Paul Lytton - Ra; Moers Music LP 01016
From htakat, a friend of this blog, comes Evan Parker and Paul Lytton's Ra, recorded live at the 1976 Moers festival. Listening to it now, it sounds like archetypal free improvisation of that period, an important step in discovering a distinct language, with bleak, astringent themes alternating against moments of great beauty. The extended sequences of Evan Parker's circular breathing punctuated and surrounded by Lytton's electronics are nothing short of extraordinary. Listening to it then, it must have appeared as sounds from a parallel universe. Even with the clicks and pops of this transfer, the sense of discovery and confidence in this music comes across strongly.

Thanks again to htakat for providing this.
Thank you. I've owned the cover for years - I lost the LP in a move somehow. Anyway, a long time favorite - beautiful.
wonderful description Tantris ,you said the right words " like archetypal free improvisation".
thanks for the help you made very nice work
Thank you for posting this. While there is a lot of their work around, it alway feels like most of what you find/hear is from the last decade.
Thanks for this one. Evan also did some duo records with John Stevens, two albums from the late 70s and one cd from the early 90s, all three on the Ogun label. I could have posted them here, as I do have them, but Ogun has rerealised them recently as a double cd. Followers of this blog are advised to seek them out while they're still available. More of Evan's soprano and more of John's minikit, particularly on the latter cd, as I recall. Good stuff in that intimate SME style of close musical conversation.
thanks a lot, htakat, for sharing this gem.
'just listened to it, it's so beautiful and I'm so surprised that it's OOP.
take care.
Important session, thanks.
Thank you.
