Narada Burton Greene-The Past is also the Future-1979

Monsieur, Just one more wafer thin slice of.....another wonderfully eclectic piece of the 70's Solo B.Greene , puzzle, the usual mix of bop tunes, free improvisation, compositions , with a little Dadaism thrown in!
Check out "Milestones"and you'll no what i mean.....

We hope in all sincerity that the many Greene albums here will whet your appetite for more recent stuff, Greene also has a Klezmer ensemble , which is a lot of fun!

An interesting ,Paris Transatlantic interview,,
Some great CD's out, on C.I.M.P , Cadence, and NoBuisness, among others! (incidentally though..the Cimp Cadence , Klompfoot site is still down)

We've always felt Greene got short shrift in shitty coffee table Jazz guides , especially the Penguin Guide to Jazz which in the early editions seemed to dismiss him  almost entirely as uneven at best , or as a mediocrity at worst... Much loved classics like aquariana , only rating a meagre, 2 stars...and nothing much rating above that.

Fuck it , throw those old jazz guides away and lend Greene's genius your  Actuel ears!!

thanks sotise!!

the klezmokum cd's mentioned in the post are still available very cheaply from bvhaast, the label by late willem breuker (still running!). the s/t debut cd features michael moore, all later ones perry robinson (of gunter hampel fame), among very fine players and a singer.

oh - my fault!! the last times i checked, the klezmokum cd's where all available - bought all 5 of them for 5 euro's each during a summer sale; just checked again (foolishly after posting the above comment!!) and they seem to have fallen all out of the program. since breuker's death there's a lot of change at bvhaast, they now focus mainly on the breuker works.

p.s.: burton greene probably has cd's left of the klezmokum ensemble - check his homepage and write to him!

the last one from me (i should've studied burton greene's homepage more thoroughly):

http://www.klezmokum.com/disco.htm

here mr. greene announced that bvhaast has closed their doors. he sells the old klezmokum cd's for 6 euro a piece! and there's even a brand new one on the music + words label (for 14 euros).
