A beautiful and historically important record. I suggest one listens to Jazz Epistles, then one of the Joe Harriot-Shake Keane 5tet, then some early Ornette with don Cherry and one will realize that there was definitely something in the air. I don't think any of them try to copy the other, it's just that they were moving in a similar direction, independently on three different continents.

Thanks. I'd been wondering about this since becoming aware of it some time back. Vintage to be sure... and nice.

Curious from any who may have other versions if the occasional distortion here is on the original or an artifact or mastering this edition? Given the time and place and technology it certainly may have been in the original recording (since it seems to only crop up on the loudest parts). The overall sound is good but the transients nag the recordist in me.
