MASAYUKI TAKAYANAGI "ACTION DIRECT" (ALM-URANOIA, 1985)
Already some months on my posting-list Nick has provided us with a surprise!
This is noise/industrial or whatever you may call it - long before such a monicker was used as a reference for a musical style.
A remarkable experience - played by:
MASAYUKI TAKAYANAGI "ACTION DIRECT"
Masayuki Takayanagi, guitar, tapes, electronics, sword and other devices
A1. Dry Weather Alert 15:07
A2. Reaction 06:26
B1. Loop Hole 21:54
Recorded live at Zojoji Hall, Tokyo, Japan on 5th October, 1985.
ALM-Uranoia UR-6 (released 1987)
(In 2005 Tiliqua Records reissued the LP as LP [250] and CD [800] - TILAR-5001 - all three releases are OOP)
(lp-rip)

A truly wonderful gift, thank you!
Great find: just as good as Hugh Hopper's 1984, a real groove record of fond memories. Long live to IS, the real place for free music & free minds!
Thank you very much!
Ooops! Crazy thing: was listening Masayuki & some loop of Wadada's trumpet coming from his site mixed in so perfectly that it raised memories of Hugh Hopper's 1984! Anyway Action Direct (sic) is a treat. Thks again for so many treasures rescued from oblivion & shared. Keep on blogging: that place is invaluable.
Good one, thanks.
As Always, The Quality Of This Blog Remains Very High. Thanks For This Piece Of Masauki Takayanagi. He's My Favourite Free Jazz Player From Japan, He Pushed His Music To A Very Radical Level And His Performances Where Very Strong And Intense...Thanks So Much.
Wow!!! I don't think this record is ''way before'' the industrial/noise moniker was coined. in fact is way after...the term was used for the first time by throbbing gristle back in 1977 so...it's obvious this fella is doing some noise here but you gotta remember that ''metal machine music'' was edited in 1975 and this record doesn't sound too different.am i wrong?
...off course you are right > Throbbing Gristle! - was a bit overenthusiastic ;)
Concerning Metal Machine Music - I believe there are some similarities but not too much.
For those interested in this aspect of Takayanagi's work I would recommend "Three Improvised Variations On A Theme Of Qadhafi", "Meta Improvisation Hokkaido Tour November 21-28, 1984" and "Masayuki Takayanagi Archive 2, New Direction Unit - Regular Concert Vol. 57 1984.9.24 At Jean Jean. Shibuya".
The first two are squarely in line with "Action Direct" in their approach to guitar--that is, it is a table top set-up with lots of effects and loops. "Meta Improvisation I think precedes "Action Direct" and "Three Improvisations on a Theme..." follows it. It's superb as well. I've included the newly released Archive 2 because I think some of the techniques used say in "Action Direct" are used on this release in a group format--two guitars and a drummer. They release a hailstorm of distortion and feedback, with the drummer pushing everything to a new higher level. Very much worth checking out and all are in print thanks to Jinya disc. They even have a DVD of Takayanagi doing his "Action Direct". It's pretty fascinating to watch.

New links would be most welcome.
Click on Zipangu's name and you'll find the link to his (now dormant?) blog.
Which one is Zipangu?
Sorry DW - wrong comment or better a comment for the wrong post...I believe I have the music still on my external hd - if so I'll re-up it soon.
There is a new Masayuki Takayangi / Masahiko Togashi CD out - available from CD Japan

Was there ever a re-up of this one?
Please advise when you can. Thanks.
Sorry pierre d'alai but I do not find Nick's rip anywhere. I have the LP but it is in storage...
So maybe someone would like to step in and provide us with a link?
