Steve Lacy/Kent Carter-Catch,(Horo (It)HZ08,LP) 1977
The latest in our out of print Lacy series , not exactly a Personal favourite, rather a perfectly pleasant intimate duo session with Kent Carter ,Lacys regular bassist for a dozen or so years.
Nice moments , including some rare tunes(Hex,Vow) Which don't seem to have been otherwise recorded .
So certainly not a desultory effort by any means , just a little unremarkable in an under powered /or lacking energy kind of way ... I'm glad i heard it without paying the big bucks for which it sells at auctions...
This is not my rip , so thanks again to LeMo ,from Sfrp who posted this some years ago!
CATCH: Steve Lacy, Kent Carter

2/ Tickets (Lacy) 7:18

Recorded at Chantalain Studio, Rome, September 17, 1977

Bozo used to have this great classic, but it disappeared over the years, who knows where?,making Bozo a very sad clown.
Bozo would like to get it again, for "Real" !!!
Thank you so much for all this rare Lacy!!
Thanks for posting this. This is one I was a Steve Lacy recording I was not familiar with and I appreciate the opportunity to hear it.
many many thanks, this has been a great gap in my collection. Your comments are fair, but track 4 (wickets?) is surely one of Lacy's most balanced and integrated solos, good mixture of swinging with free.
I really love this one... one of the highlights in Lacy's later 70s-output in my book. I think it's very beautifully recorded and it simply SOUNDS GOOD to me. Oh, all the warmth and friendly playing-with-each other in there!
'. . . perfectly pleasant intimate duo session . . .'. I think that is spot on. I really enjoyed this (but then I didn't pay 'big bucks'). Thank you Sotise.
. . . er two things, my tracks seem to be in a different order to those listed. Mine seem to go: Catch, Hex, Mumps, Thickets, Vow. Also, I think that 'Vow' (the last track) is the tune for 'Wish' from the 1977 album 'The Owl' - is it possible that "Vow' is a poor translation of 'Wish'?
er . . .thanks again there is absolutely no other way that I would have heard this.
Marten 512: I think the reason the tracks appear in a different sequence is that the original uploader did not number them, hence they appear alphabetically. A widespread problem in the early days of blogging.

Here are the cover scans if you need them: http://www.multiupload.com/BYXVOZM0EY
I always thought Vow was simply mistitled, like the other Lacy tunes here (Mumps is actually Moms, Thickets is Wickets, and Hex is Spell, from that same suite of pieces ["Touchstones"] on "The Owl"), but on the "Joan Miro Foundation Concert" CD, Lacy himself identifies the piece as "Vow", before quickly correcting it to "Wish", so that one may indeed have been re-titled at some point.
thanks for yr efforts Mew23
Thanks for these marvellous and rare Steve Lacy recordings. But I've troubles with downloading this one. The dl stops at 20,9 MB. Something wrong with the upload?
Thanks again.
Bill , 200 people have Dld this, theres nothing wrong with the upload ,truncated downloads can happen for any number of reasons ,particularly batch downloading , a slow fragmented pc ... you name it.... it helps with Megaup if you have a free user account (which is what i have, i only use Megaup, because im on a slow connection , and their upload manager is a useful tool)
Also had dload probs. Tried several times and it stops at about 31% each time. No other probs dloading using other megaupload links from this site.
Me as well - if any commenters successfully DLed this, a repost to some other host would be appreciated. I'm sure I have some Lacy I can upload for you in return.
ok Brakhage , ill redo it, ill try Multi up....
would be great if you had a few missing OOP Lacys , i can even invite you onto the board here if you want to post....
heres a fresh link , for those who need it

Kind people, you are. The original link worked on my temperamental DSL connection. As a Kent Carter fan this one is very special to me. His opening solo alone is worth the price of admission. But then you hear these two musicians engage in some intimate musical dialogue. So very engaging that I found myself surprised when it was over (makes me wonder if there was more recorded at these sessions...). I would call this one "Essential". Thank you so very much Sotise.
Thanks sotise - much obliged. Here's a list of all the Lacy I have (a lot of it from blogs like this) - quality is fine for me, but it may range from 160 MP3 to ALAC.
Let me know if there's anything you'd like and I'll pop it up on this thread.
Thanks for the poster invite, but I've got my *own* music blog I haven't posted to for years ... ^_^

Oh hey, while I'm here, I'm driving myself nuts trying to find the Chitinous Ensemble - if anyone has *that* I'd love it.
Thanks for your prompt reaction, Sotise. After several retrials I finally succeeded. Never had any trouble with other dls. This album is certainly worth the trouble. Thanks for this one and the other OOP Lacys.

Just like to mention that your "blog list" (to the right here) has also been very useful.
