Frode Gjerstad has just published another concert of the same band, in fact the first one from October 6 2019 and it is as excellent as the first one. The music is a bit different than the usual scale of Gjerstad, less directly expressive and more introspective at times, Fabiana Galante on piano and Dag Erik Knedal Andersen on percussions are particularly subtle musicians, this second chapter (that is in fact the first) is great. I think that this band have made a cd for FMR records some years ago but I was personally less impressed by this cd than by those two recent concerts, the new one is available here for purchase at a very low price

@volumeselector - that's perfectly possible. Before online sharing collectors shared the roios with snail-mail. That's the way I got it.
A friend of mine is member of the Cecil Taylor "Appreciation Society" (the word is made up 'cause I've forgot the name of this pool of CT fans). He has more than 400 unreleased CT concerts. There was a great website with a sessionograpphy of CT. This was hosted at Webmutations but is now available via the Wayback machine only.
However - there's a great collector at Dime. His nickname is jazzrita. He has many, many unreleased Jazz recordings. Maybe the Dime share of the Munich and Amsterdam concerts are from his collection. I'm at Dime since about 12 years but nowadays I'm not active anymore, except once a year or so.
I only wanted to give some background as far as I know it.

@Ernst I would be interested in joining that group. I currently have 163 CT RoIO's in my collection so I have a ways to go. I remember the CT online sessionography well. Most of my collection came from Dime, Marc (Inc Sol founder), Spindrifter, Rick, etc. I was corresponding with Jan Strom RIP but he only did tape trades so I never got anything from him.

I have recently discovered this excellent and original record by an Argentinian super group called DATRΣbIL.
To describe the music it is as if Miles Davis Bitches Brew has meet Henry Cow.
It is a collective affair with not so much solo, it is not free in the usual mode but the music is great, well produced. Not jazz rock and not prog but a mix of all with some free moments, few copies are still for sale on discogs but it become rare

Recently some good music was published by Canadian guitarist Gordon Grdina with his group Square Peg. It is the second album of this band, the preview one was a live and this one recorded almost at the same time has the same feeling, very original music

thank you for the Principle life I didn't know this very interesting band. The second show from Hamburg is my favorite, it is in stéréo so it is easy to listen carefully to both bassist who are clearly separated. a small mistake on the txt where Klavs Hovman is credited as the pianist, Marilyn Masur plays also the piano in addition to drums and percussions. Obviously this band has never officially recorded.

This is not "free jazz", but it does have Harold McNair, and I collect McNair. I've been looking all over for lossless, and all the FLACS on Soulseek have tuned out to be fake lossless.

It was originally published on daagnim records, the label founded by Dennis Gonzalez, and it has been recorded with the collective who played with Gonzalez in the late seventies. In my opinion it is more for completists than a real essential album but Prince Lasha's discography is very small so it can be interesting

Today I have finally the time to listen to the massive Sam Rivers Rivbea Orchestra from Brussels, it is a terrific concert. I have noticed one interesting thing, Don Pullen is listed but listening to all the music there is no piano. I checked the Rick Lopez's Sa Rivers sessionnography and he also mention Don Pullen, but he admit that there are many mistakes on his work. The possibility is that due to the fact that the second track stop suddenly we can suppose that there were more music and perhaps Pullen plays after. The other possibility is that Don Pullen was on the tour but not on this concert, he is also credited four days before in the same band during the Nancy Jazz Pulsation in France.
found this obscur recording on bandcamp from Yusuf Mumin. He was the saxophonist and bassist on the legendary Black Unity Trio but was also playing with trumpet player Norman Howard under his birth name: Joe Philips.

This recording comes from the eighties in tribute to Albert Ayler. At first I thought it was not so interesting but after a repeating listening I finally found this recording quite interesting. It is a document because obviously Yusuf Mumin haven't recorded more. Some more tapes of the Black Unity trio have been obviously definitely lost.

I sent an email via Bandcamp to the person who provide the recording (Yusuf himself I suppose) but haven't received answer now. I will also ask to Pierre Crépon who is journalist for the wire. It is Pierre who suggested Yusuf Mumin to publish this recording on bandcamp when he was writting and interviewing about the reissue of the Black Unity Trio. One title of this collection was featured on the playlist

For fans of british jazz the label "british progressive jazz" is publishing a never released live of Graham Collier from 1968. The sound is very good and the compositions are very interesting. Obviously they have never been recorded elsewhere in Collier's discography.

On the same label there is also a live from Keith Tippett but after listening to it, I found it not so interesting in the fact that the tracks are not so long, solo are short and it is near a studio album, but for absolute collectors of Tippett it will be an important addition to his discography

Maurice Malik King have played a bit with the Human Art Ensemble and his only album as a leader was very hard to find. One of the last rare free jazz record who is finally again under the spot.

I never had the chance to listen to this lp but I have been always curious about the music. So this reissue on lp and digital must be interesting. Play loud have also reissued other titles from Anima aka Anima sound, a german group that was really fascinating.
Today I got the digital version of "it's up to you" by Friedrich Gulda, Limpe Fuchs, Paul Fuchs, Albert Mangelsdorff, Barre Phillips etc. After burning a cd-r and played it I can say that the sound is really good, they did a perfect remastering job, obviously starting from a lp. The music is also totally great, very particular. It can be as particular as "organic music society " by Don Cherry even if it is of course very different. I really recommend this music on lp or on digital, depending on what you prefer

Thank you Jeff for the share. I have to say that the source is not the master or what we usually call the master. A master is the sound that is taken directly from the soundboard. It can be in stéréo or in mono, depending on the choice of the sound engineer. For example if the musicians just want to listen the result of the concert without any other using, an approximately mixed recording can be provided. if the musicians want to publish later the show, a multi tracking recording that will needs mixing will be provided. In the case of this recording there is a very strong compression that makes me think that it has been recorded from a radio broadcast. Also the sound is in mono but stronger on the right channel than on the left. But it is particularly the strong compression that have altered the sounds of the instruments that makes me think that it can't come from a soundboard and so from what we call a master.
In the context if the lineage cited in respect of recordings such as the Dixon Quintet, although I can’t be sure I think “master” could mean the original recording from which copies have been made. In principle, that original might be an audience recording, soundboard, or an off-air recording. I don’t think the claim is that the recording has been taken directly from a soundboard.

cs, If you were to take a set up to a concert and make an audience recording. your recording, whether it be a digital recorder or analog, would be "the master" of this particular recording. Then generations are applied to all copies and so on. Same if you record something off the radio. Your copy is the master in the chain of that individual recording. In analog times these generations made considerable difference. Every time a cassette was copied, then traded and copied again from that copy becoming a higher generation from the original source (aka master). Hence more hiss, worse sound, even with good tape decks. Plus depending on how often tape heads were cleaned, if a tape deck was playing at the right speed when re-recording and a host of other issues.
This is not a perfect recording of Bill Dixon, but quite listenable. I thought it fit hand in hand with the earlier recording here at IS and of course the official LP's. A great band.
The missing part of the tape lineage is the actual source audience, fm etc. But I am almost certain this is an fm recording from RAI.
Also, this appears to have been transferred to digital from cassette in 2008. So conceivably, this cassette was 28 years old when transferred, or in that area. Cassettes are definitely finite and degrade all by themselves over the years storage and playback.
I am sure most of this, you already know. Hopefully you enjoyed the recording:)

That is probably my professional deformation that makes me always think that a master is something that comes from a soundboard. For many people "a master" is simply the first recording whatever it comes from.
of course the music is great, even more interesting than the studio version of this band, I almost prefer live even if in the case of Bill Dixon, his music have a complexity that is sometimes easier to play in a confortable studio condition than on stage.
Shame to imagine that this recording is part of the hundred and hundred of soundboards that sleeps in the archival department of the radio

Many beautifully mastered and wonderful performances lay dormant in radio archives.
Agreed, though persistence can pay off. There are many good recordings that have been unearthed from the BBC archives, and I get the impression that inroads have been made into the “masters” of Cecil Taylor broadcasts.
Radio France and also some German radios have also hours and hours of archival recordings When a producer want to publish some, it is in most case very difficult. I know the producer who published the 3 lp box set of Nathan Davis live in Paris of the sixties. For him it was easier to deal with Nathan Davis's family than with the national audiovisual institute where the tapes were stored.

The deeply original and eccentric italian bassist passed away in March of this year. Proof that he has been totally forgotten, any news on the web about his death.
There is actually no program of reissuing his music. Even if his daughter is not against this idea she is not ready to do it now. Perhaps it needs time to do it.
Buratti, like Urs Blochlinger or Theo Loevendie are great musicians who's discography are almost unknown except by few people but they are all important musicians.
Some of their records are/were available here, so pick up those who are still available until future reissues.

The german label "made in Germany" will publish a double cd that contains all the concert that the Marion Brown qt gave in 1969 at Bremen. Part of this concert was circulating on the web, coming from a radio broadcast. The music is superbe and the sound is also great.
The same label have published in early September last year a double cd of the Manfred Schoof Quintet also recorded in Bremen but in 1978, this double cd was also amazing.
