....Requests

Requests, broken links, re-ups and related topics go here. It may be easier for admins to be attentive to these topics if they are put here and not under the individual posts. There's no guarantee that we may be able to respond to everything, but we'll give it a try.

I've deleted the previous 'Requests' post as it was becoming a bit unwieldy.
I shall start the requests with the last one from the previous thread.

@Nick

The last time you told me that it will take a long time was about the re-up of all the Toshi Tsuchitori and you re-up all of them less than one week after my request... Very fast in my opinion!
I suppose that you have to do a bigger job in the case of "Double face" because it have never been posted here before, so I can understand it will take more time, but if it comes I will appreciate it very much and I'm sure I won't be the only one.
thank in advance.

Hi Milos

it is great but unfortunately I can't download on mega, every time I try the process stop before the end, it seems that they do this for all the people who haven't account, after several download. I asked a friend to do it for me and the same thing happen to him. Could you post it on 1F, if no I will see what I can do with some other friends.

Nod y said...

Hi Milos

I was too hurry and didn't check it before posting my preview comment but this one on mega is an mp3 version, I already have the mp3, i search for an upgrade in flac.

miloo2 said...

Nod Y - I arleady announced earlier I will upload mp3 @ 320 version from musica degradata. I can not upload it now anywhere else than on mega. Creating account there will cost you approx. 1 minute and dowloading works almost perfectly and quickly with their MegaSync extension. Otherwise you can go to http://musicadegradata.blogspot.cz/2013/01/contact-trio-double-face-1975.html and try unfriendly rapidgator, as I did.

Hello Nod y. I know it's not FLAC, but that fine album is on youtube.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bgVuUwMo9js

The whole album is there in different video links.

Nod y said...

Hi Anonymous
thank for your link, in fact this post on youtube comes from the file that have been posted some years ago by prog not frog. The link is dead but another blog posted it on mp3. In fact I discovered that this blog took the file from prognotfrog because on the track two there are some gaps during the music, incredible! How some people can upload some files that they took from somewhere else without checking if the file is correct! I found a correct version of track two on youtube but unfortunately it is in 192 or 128. here it is the only blog where people share in flac so that's why I request it here.

Hello

All along those last years some lp's of pianist Michael Smith have been posted including "reflections on progress" or "the duality of man" but all the links are dead. A re-up of the 3 or 4 lp's of Smith would be great.
Thanks in advance.

Hi , I have a request. Don't know how much of the orchiddoctor / carville transfers any of you got off DIME when uploaded a few years back. But most of that stuff has vanished from the internet (There is one other place besides here that has some lower bit rate versions of some of the shows which I was glad to at least hear). I Think I have most of the stuff that was posted here (Many, Many thanks for sharing what you have, because these recordings truly are treasures!!!!!). But I look at that list carville posted on your AEC Empty Foxhole post. Damn there is a lot of great looking stuff. Anything would be great but of extreme interest is-
Muhal Richard Abrams
5tet - Air + Roscoe Mitchell - Ali's, Alley NY, NY 3/4/77 (3cd)
5tet - Air + Roscoe Mitchell (set 3 w/Kalaparusha, Bluiett, Freeman, Dara) - Ali's, Alley NY, NY 3/5/77 (4cd)
(Never seen anything w/ this configuration of musicians as a quintet!!!!)
Dave Holland
w/Rivers, Braxton and Altschul - Studio Rivbea NY, NY 12/1/72 (2cd) (A few days after they were in the studio to record Conference of the Birds!!!!!WOW!!!!)

These are just a couple that caught my eye, But really everything in that list looks amazing(all those 70's AEC performances)
Anything, really, would be great. Everything I've heard so far, the quality of the audience recording have really been pretty amazing for the vintage and what they are. I mean this isn't exactly the Grateful Dead as far as abundance of live recordings.
Thanks for everything you all do at I-Sol and happy 10 year anniversary!
p.s I left a query (not a request) in the free form section. If anyone knows the answer or a way, I saved that email after the failure.

kinabalu said...

Jeff,

I managed to get most of the carville/orchiddoctor's material off Dime, including the one from the Empty Foxhole that was posted here before. I focused on the AACM/AEC material which means that I have the two Abrams, but not the Holland set. I mean to post more in the time to come, becayse I've always been a huge fan of the AEC and all of its various spinsoffs.

Regarding your query, I can try to get in touch with carville through Dime and it's possible he might have an updated contact address for orchiddoctor. I'll let you know in case I'm making progress in that regard.

Thanks for your kind words re. the anniversary!

jeff said...

kinabalu, thanks for your response. I truly look forward to anything that gets posted and I truly appreciate the lossless copies that you (as whole at I-Sol) post. These are truly historical recordings.
Glasses up!!! All hail the few tapers who were out there recording this type of music back in the early days (like orchiddoctor, riccardo and the likes) to capture these treasures!!!!!
I too am a huge AEC/AACM fan, growing up in Chicago from when I was 6 until I was about 32. Unfortunately I was to young to see them in the seventies but saw my fair share in the 80's up till about 2001 when I moved.
Today I was listenning to the Roscoe Septet show from Rivbea, February 8, 1976 that used to be in the contributions section, but snuck it's way into the comments of the trio performance post on your site from the same year. Man they were in full tilt when the tape ran out in the second set!!!!!
Cheers to all at Sol. Thanks again!!

Hello everyone!
I'd like to ask if someone could re-upload the link for glmlr's LP rip of SOH album posted a whole bunch of years ago by Boromir (http://inconstantsol.blogspot.com/2008/04/skidmore-oxley-haurand-soh-1979.html).
Also interested in Noah Howard's shows shared by ubu via his space (http://ubu-space.blogspot.com/search/label/Noah%20Howard). Sadly, the links are down and ubu is no longer active...

@Preacheros
Regarding the lp of Skidmore/Haurand/oxley, it is now available in a box set with three others albums, one of Leszek Zadlo and two others with Alan Skidmore. And if you wonder if it is interesting to buy a box set for only one album you search, I can tell you that the three others albums ar absolutely great and if you don't know them you will have a nice surprise

correct silence,
thanks for the info! Hm, I've seen a mention about this box-set in the comments to SOH post, but didn't check it out, being confused by Leszek Zadlo name who I don't actually know nothing about. The other 3 albums from the box do seem interesting.

correct silence said...

@Preacheros: even the Leszek Zadlo is great, he is a Polish saxophonist who haven't recorded very much. You'll find him on 3 of the 4 cd's and particularly the European Jazz Quintet with Skidmore, Dudek and the team of Haurand on bass and Pierre Courbois on drums.

This album is one of the futura/marge who haven't been reissued and who now probably will never be. Gérard was the owner of the label and the producer too.

I posted this concert in the mp3 version coming from the soundboard but the link is no more active and I have deleted my own copy from my hard disc, but the flac version posted by Kinabalu is more than correct, the difference was very light and you could only hear it by a very careful listen and a very high quality hi fi material. @ Ernst Grgo Nebhuth
thank you for your -even negative- response about Acting Seven / Clan Music Overdrive ‎– Babel . i expect correct's silence offer.
Now about places that somebody could listen to improvising etc music im Athen...hm!
i inform you that only 5 or so major concerts take place annual, usually in http://www.sgt.gr/eng/SPG1/? or more sporadically in http://www.megaron.gr/default.asp?la=2.
This month in 14 DOKUMENTA's programm we 'll have more cultural events.
Tomorrow i'll go to concert -one of rare by them- of MARGINAL CONSORT , on 4th of May Frederick Rzewski http://www.megaron.gr/default.asp?pid=5&la=2&evID=3631 , on May 20 Diamanda Galas & later a concert of Fred Frith .ticket prices from 10 Euro (in Stegi's events to 100 Euro in e.g D.Galas concert ,too expensive avant garde he he, not so bad isn't it?
But that's all , clubs or other places in greece have dull or awfull music for my taste. Some of them dominate whole place with their disturbing silly mainstream music.. last chance? personal home listening. i would wish be more optimist but harsh reality rules..
From the other hand Krestena is near ancient Olympia if you interested about, kilometers-long beaches (around KAIAFAS lake). i had been there for a weekend back in 80's , so my opinion is out of date.So Far, so good.

best regards
Alex in Solex

Ernst Grgo Nebhuth said...

Thank you Alex - appreciated your survey about clubs/locations in Athen.
Lying at the beach isn't my preferred way of spending my time.
My wife speaks some Greek and she has friends in Athen and near Krestena. She lived on the Peloponnes for about three years if I recall correctly.

You have mentioned some concert locations. What about a reasonable good record-shop in Athen?
How about local Avantgarde music?
Thank again for your help!

Anonymous said...

@Ernst Grgo Nebhuth
hi again,
yesterday we had a great MARGINAL CONSORT concert. beyond boundaries imagination, body stretching made music from 3 of them especially, from modified traditional musics to pure noise , a huge number of selfconsrtucted micro instruments or found oblects , in a 3 hours plus set-performance. what other could i say?

Now about record shops...
https://www.vinylhub.com/shop/22042-A-Strange-Attractor
my old friend's place is the top record shop in exper/garde .

https://www.vinylhub.com/shop/5722-Vinyl-Microstore
very good shop, active crew , cultural micro(their favourite word i consider)-event organisers,
https://www.vinylhub.com/shop/14150-Art-Nouveau-Records
a historical record shop -since very early 80's- , releasing tapes from Legendary pink dots back in 1983, portion control, paul roland, publishing fanzines for psychedelic music . in 60's psychedelia the owner Nikos is a deep cognoscente. but all these are beyond your taste, isn't it?
About greek avant/experimental scene, i think that i don't know pretty enough to recommend some artists. in random i could refer to Nikos Veliotis , a talented cello player,http://www.nikosveliotis.com/
The Callas: a idiosyncratic duo making music, films, paintings,http://thecallas.com/

https://thesorg.bandcamp.com/ it's a good record company from saloniki , now based in UK.
that's all for now
best regards
Alex in Solex

Ernst Grgo Nebhuth said...

Wow! Thanks a lot Alex for caring!!
For sure I shall check out some of your recommendations.
It seems "Strange Attractor" isn't far away from where I shall stay on Athen. Probably only 20 minutes on feeet from our friends.
Concerning "beyond my taste" you are correct - nowadays. But I used to listen a lot to the music called psychedelic. Still do so today a bit. F.e. recently I bought Linda Perhacs first recording.
Not at least in the end of the 1970s and during the 80s I made a lot of music. Every day for at least four years at least 5 to 6 hours. A good part of our output could be termed 'psychedelic'.
The main reason for not listening much to other musics than Free Jazz/Improvisation and Contemporary Classics (already much less) and a bit historical recordings of socalled 'ethnological music' is simply that the day still has only 24 hours!.
I like to delve deep into the stuff I admire. Off course I do check out a lot of music which I do not listen fully.
My work at a really big record-store has some opportunities.
Thanks again, Alex!

@ Ernst Grgo Nebhuth
excellent choice Parallelograms by Linda Perhacs. i first listened to her album in 1998-99 reissue from "the wild places" label.it was in the same label (Kapp) with Silver Apples so reiisue was sine qua non for her album, for good i consider.
i believe too that your work is a big opportunity to keep in touch with music or even better to delve into your favs by repeatedly listening.
i think that all devoted listeners made the same . i was also listening 5, 6 hours daily when i studied in uni. We -me & my friends- listened all records we had that time - as musical marathons- by Van der Graaf Generator,Can,Gong,Magma, Art Ensemble of Chicago, Cecil Taylor, john Coltrane & so on . It wasn't only "psychedelic" music , i din't dare to call it so the last three names , but was a great music , it was a blooming era... Nowadays I do the same sometimes, alas in "non lethal" portions.... C'est la vie!
keep on sharing great music

Hello, everybody!
Traveling through Frank Wright's catalog of recordings I discovered a couple of his great late 70s albums - Shouting The Blues and Kevin, My Dear Son - both released by a French label Sun Records. I have found them in 224/256 mp3 quality and those have a decent sound, but if someone has digital copy of one of these or both works in better quality on deck, please share! Thanks!

correct silence said...

Hi Nick
I wanted to take time to listen to the album before leaving my thanks to you. It’s a really wonderful album that remain me in the feeling (more than in the music style), of the albums that Don Cherry recorded during his Swedish times. It is the same creativity, the same way to build a track that can go to several directions that are difficult to imagine for the listener. Berger and crew are at the top of the creativity during this album. Thank you also for the perfect transfer quality, nothing to edit if I want to burn a cdr. So my gratitude to you Nick.
@Lucky thank you for the link to « a darker shade of blue » but I don’t visit this blog because it’s purpose is far from my conception of the way to share music and respect the musicians. Many of the music available on this blog is still in print and while the records store fight to survive, while records company drop more and more their back catalog, some people request music day after day and few people try to answer as fast as they can to those requests… a very disappointing show in my opinion. It is not because things are possible that one have to do it. Pretending that we like music means the respect for the ones who do and produce it. I’m not sure that it is the case at « a darker shade of blue » but when one don’t take time to look sometimes his face in the mirror, it is easy to go on in the wrong way.

Lucky said...

@correct silence: I see you point. The problem with sharing music has been discussed on the web endless times, and there are as many opinions as people sharing. For me the only 'right' way of sharing music would be to get the OK from the musician and/or right-holder! The point of OOP might seem a good one, but it doesn't make it really legible, only morally, but that doesn't prevent lawyers to hunt to if you are unlucky. To share old music still in print might seem less wrong than brand new music, in case of bootlegs and shoddy re-prints even more so. A good way would be to only share ones own music, and let the musicians and composers take care of their music themselves - regardless of availability.

correct silence said...
