....Requests

Requests, broken links, re-ups and related topics go here. It may be easier for admins to be attentive to these topics if they are put here and not under the individual posts. There's no guarantee that we may be able to respond to everything, but we'll give it a try.

I've deleted the previous 'Requests' post as it was becoming a bit unwieldy.
I shall start the requests with the last one from the previous thread.

James Flagg - as far as I know, Hampel still sells his music via his homepage:

http://gunterhampelmusic.de/?page_id=21

The "8th of July" has been #001 of his label "Birth Records", and I think it's still in print (I bought the CD version in the 1990's). At a concert I saw Hampel selling CD-r's of his music (I bought a trio with Perry Robinson and Lou Grassi - magnificent!).

kinabalu said...

OK. Noted. Mine is a Flying Dutchman release from 1970 while the one I was directed to was on Hampel's own Birth label. Re-release I take it, otherwise identical with the FD release from what could be seen from the scans of the front and back. The FD release was a fold-out with long liner notes inside by Nat Hentoff, regular jazz scribe with the Village Voice at the time. Interesting read.

Ernst Grgo Nebhuth said...

HI Fred - I'll re-up "Meditation Among Us" soon.

I also have the "Fuigo" LP from Kondo (already ripped).
Shall post it as well.
Probably a reminder (in about ten days or so) from you would be useful.

kinabalu said...

@Jim:

Re. the Hampel lp, I suggest a compromise. Since it appears that Hampel is still selling it, it would not be proper to put it here, but I can always do a private rip for you. Could you please contact me c/o my gmail address? You can find it in my profile.

kinabalu said...

Hello,

One gem (j’aime), and probably a second one :

http://inconstantsol.blogspot.fr/2008/12/creative-construction-company-vol-2muse.html
http://inconstantsol.blogspot.fr/2008/12/creative-construction-company-vol-1muse.html

My vol.2 is completely scratched and i never had the opportunity to listen the vol.1 !

Is someone have these Lp and could post them ?

(I promised not to make too much requests, but it’s difficult because there are so many beautiful things here … I hope my English is readable !)

kinabalu said...

@Fred: I should have both of them in the archives and I have the actual albums as well, so a re-up should be feasible. I'll use the digital files if I can find them as that would be quicker.

Fred said...

@ kinabalu : What do you mean by « actual » albums. I have not found them, except used !
Now, it’s not a request (though …) : i bought recently a CD of Daunik Lazro with Joelle Leandre (No Business Records), a marvel, and I wondered why there is so little of his music here (and elsewhere too !). Because (for me, of course) it's amazing how this musician grew in thirty years (first date I « saw »him in concert).
Anyway , thank you again.

kinabalu said...

@Fred: What I meant to say is that I have the physical items myself, the actual lps. Used, definitely, because these were issued originally in the mid-70s and I only got them at least 30 years later. I only located one mp3 copy in the archives, which means I did not download them at the time, possibly because I already had them and throught it unnecessary. Anyway, I'll look around and rip my own copies (unless Sotise reads this and can repost them from his own files).

kinabalu said...

A quick update: After further online snooping, I managed to locate digital copies of both CCCs. It's conceivable that they may have been downloaded from this blog and then posted elsewhere. I can't verify that, but it's not unusual. In any case, I have the files so I'll have them up and running in a little while.

Fred said...

@kinabalu : Thank you for the details.

« Rien ne presse » !

You mentioned Sotise, so I was reminded of 9GC, and in the same time I took a look at the feeds :
9GC is back !
The post « So anyway » looks like a catharsis …

Fred said...

@kinabalu

Thank you for both CCC, and for the flac (but it's strange : vol 2 sounds like mp3 !)
Could finally listened vol 1.

Apart from the Hampel recording I there are at least three more recordings from the TMM 1968:

- Manfred Schoof (tpt); Paul Rutherford (tb); Peter Brötzmann (ts, bs); Evan Parker (ts); Willem Breuker (ts); Fred Van Hove (p); J.B. "Buschi" Niebergall (b); Peter Kowald (b); Han Bennink (d)
(about 6 minutes)

- Don Cherry (p, voc); Han Bennink (d) (~ 6 minutes)

Please help - I re-upped the Free Jazz Workshop Wuppertal 1979.
Unfortunately it has happened what all digital files might face - the end of track four is full of digital 'clicks'.
Maybe someone who has downloaded then has a version which is whithout these annoying sounds.
I have two versions but both are defect."

I checked my copy and the files within it are dated 2010 (I suspect they came from a DAD post). Listening I didn't hear many glaring issues, though there was one larger click on the left channel (that could to some degree be repaired). Looking carefully in an audio editor I see that whatever disc those came from was probably starting to degrade even then as there are some slight digital errors within the waveform. All in all it is not pristine but certainly quite listenable and not as distracting as I sense the newer version is. So I've uploaded it here if any would like to compare.

http://we.tl/lyqoCBKWIY

Link good for a week, though please repost it more permanently if this is an improvement.

As mentioned I could probably apply some good software to the few moments where something looks amiss but that may be more time than I can dedicate to it at the moment.

The link for Rasimov's alternate version of that song has gone dead. Also the links for Rasimov's fix of the Radio Stuttgart problem files has also gone dead. If any could repost those I'd appreciate it.

Ernst Grgo Nebhuth said...

Thank you very much JC - I had almost forgot the issue.
Please tell me which Radio Stuttgart recording do you mean?
Appreciated - thanks again!!

JC said...

^ Rasimov had noted in this section last year:

Some time ago I downloaded the Radio Jazz Group Stuttgart session from June 1977 (with Christmann/Parker/Schlippenback/Dauner/Kowald/Lovens/Lytton) from UbuRoi (I guess). I found that (especially) tracks 4 and 5 were in a bad condition with plenty of very short continuous gaps obviously caused by too excessive use of noise reduction tools. They tend to (often with their default settings) not only remove noise and clicks but also lower frequencies and in quiet parts it sounds as if there is something cut out.
Well here are the repaired (tracks 4 + 5) and "remixed" files of the Radio Jazz Group Stuttgart, June 13, 1977 :)

but those links are now dead and I missed it here, so was hoping someone might put them back up. Thanks.

Concerning digital glitch from CD rips. There is nothing wrong with the digital files, per say, if you keep and store them on a hard drive. The problem happens when you burn them to CDs, that's when the glitch happen. When you rip a CD you have burned, it's 50% chances no glitch or 50% with glitch, and I have no idea what causes it. We should never burn to CDs, it all comes from it.

roberth said...

burning to cdr at slower speeds causes less glitches. but cdrs also decay. especially those with the blue service. i still have cassettes that play after 38 years
cdrs will not last that long.

Yesterday I listened to Wolfgang Dauner's Et Cetera in Altena 1972. What really surprised me was Attila Zoller's guitar playing - so different from what I knew from him so far.
Can anybody tell if there is any more stuff with him where he is playing in a similar vein?

JC said...

^ It appears from reading the Kahil posts that the above two requested Kahil projects on Sound Aspects were requested to be removed as being in print (at least at that point)? As a policy (or convenience) maybe the pages should be removed when the material isn't permitted though?

The EHE Cologne set posted somewhat earlier seems to have only returned in MP3 (though may have only been here as such). That might be more worthwhile (in flac) and less controversial...

I'm searching in Flac the NDR Jazzworkshop No.100 - Keith Jarrett Quartet (w/ Dewewy Redman!) from April 18, 1974 at Studio 1 des NDR Funkhauses, Hannover.
Any help would be appreciated.

I'm sorry to be a nuisance; would be grateful, when you have time, if you could post District 6 'To be Free', please. Appreciative of all that you do. Many thanks - Jeff.

Ernst Grgo Nebhuth said...

I do not have District 6 "To Be Free".
But it's available at discogs for a reasonable price > http://www.discogs.com/sell/release/771947?ev=rb

Ernst Grgo Nebhuth said...

One more request from me.
I'm searching for a recording of the Globe Unity Orchestra.
Recorded in Berlin on November 7, 1970.
The recording contains three tracks:
1. Globe Unity 70 (A. von Schlippenbach) 17:51
!2. Ode (M. Schoof) 12:54
!3. Drunken in the Morning Sunrise (P. Brötzmann) 9:53

The first tune was released on an Atavistic CD which I have.
There's also a video of the event which was available elsewhere at the web some time ago.
But the other two 'songs' is what I would like to hear.
So - maybe someone is able to provide me (us) with the last two tracks - preferably in flac.
I know it was broadcasted on radio.
Thanks in advance.

propylaen2001 said...

@ onxidlib: At the NDR Jazzworkshop no. 100 Keith Jarrett played with his European Quartet. So no Dewey Redman but Jan Garbarek playing the sax. See here: http://www.plosin.com/milesahead/Tapes.aspx?s=19740418a

mew23 said...

@ onxidlib: I have the TV broadcast of the Globe Unity Orchestra. It is 32 minutes long and includes the two tracks you are looking for and 8 minutes from the first track, I'll upload it tomorrow.

Your earlier request for a recording of the Keith Jarrett Quartet is not quite clear to me. The NDR Jazz Workshop no. 100 was performed by the Jarrett-Garbarek Quartet, it was re-broadcast several times, only 10 days ago it was on TV again.
However if you are really looking for a bootleg of KJ's American Quartet I have 3 recordings to offer: Berlin Jazz Festival 1973, Milwaukee 1976 and Willisau 1976 (the last one in mono). It may take a few days to upload that but feel free to make your choice :-)

Ernst Grgo Nebhuth said...

Thanks propylaen2001. Off course it's Garbarek - my imagination went somehow nuts.
Garbarek is OK - at least during his first years (up to 1973) but Dewey Redman is an unsung master IMHO.

Ernst Grgo Nebhuth said...

Thanks you, mew23 - it was my mistake.
It's really the 100th workshop I'm looking for - with Garbarek - re-broadcasted about ten days ago in the BR.
But the American's Quartet from Berlin 1973 would be welcomed by me as well.
And Globe Unity would be simply great.
I bought a book from Hans Kumpf titled "Postserielle Musik und Free Jazz" which includes an analysis from Schoof's "Ode" which was played and broadcasted at the Berlin Jazz Festival in November 1970.
Apart from being always interested in Schoof's music this reading made me really curious.
Thank you for your help!

tony said...

@ Andy . i saw this post bout Keith Tippett on this blog. well, im a collector of private recordings, and i DO like very much Keith T in solo setting. i also did a workshop with him couple years ago (imm a jazz musician too) well i write here as i dont find any way to contact you. i dont like the sound of digital recordings. so when a recording is done in analog way i look for a direct analog copy of the original analog master tape (copied onto a new tape, same kindas original so i see in the notes of the post that is a soundboard cassette recording... please it woud be possible to get a cassette copy made directly from original cassette? (please NO CD -> cassette or flac/mp3 -> cassette, thus source would be digital already..) id like to preserve a REAL ORIGINAL copy while other people are happy like digtal transfer.. i can provide a cassette blank to make the copy AND i can provide you some rare Keith Tippett recordings to make an Exchange. please let me know is IMPORTANT, please if youwant contact me at: jimlayours@yahoo.com much thanks! Hello Nick - please re-up the following 'The Quartet" recordings.
I know I'm late but maybe you will find some time to post these LPs once more.

http://inconstantsol.blogspot.de/2013/06/the-quartet-relation-konnex-records-1985.html
http://inconstantsol.blogspot.de/2013/05/the-quartet-dedications-konnex-records.html

Recently I'm re-reading Oxley's biography and listened to a lot of 'old' recordings from him.
Would be nice get one or two new releases from his music wether old stuff or newer productions.
For example the session for the LP February Papers" had 7 more pieces which were never released.
Maybe I should follow his offer and buy a tape or two and do an official production all myself or with another venturous music-lover.
