HARRY BECKETT QUINTET +1 (w. Elton Dean) ALAN SKIDMORE / MALCOLM GRIFFITHS QNT. JOHN TAYLOR SEXTET

Here is music from three BBC Sounds of Jazz broadcasts by heroes of British jazz taken from cassettes.  I haven't separated the presenter's introductions so they are included with the music here and there.  I'm afraid I do not have a record of the dates of recordings or broadcasts, presumably some time in the 1970/80s.  Any help would be gratefully received.

Many, many thanks for these, Andy. As to date, I haven't any exact details, but:

Pine was playing with Beckett in the early 1990s (not sure if he was doing so before).

Tony Levin played with John Taylor on a series of LPs in the early 1970s, with similar band members. It's Chris Payne, I believe. Levin played with Alan Skidmore and Malcolm Griffiths just before that on TCB. I'm using my Levin discography for this http://wallofsound.wordpress.com/2009/12/02/tony-levin-discography-1970s/

Hello Wallofsound. Thanks for your comments. Actually it's Chris Pyne, brother of pianist Mick Pyne. They both died in 1995. Thanks for the links to your Levin site. Over a year ago I sent you a lot of cd cover scans to use (which don't appear to have made it). I wonder if we have met. I live near Warwick.

Thanks. This look facinating. I am very exited to hear this material.

You're right, Andy. That 'a' slipped in by mistake. Thank you for sending the CD cover scans. I'm not sure why they didn't get to us. And now I learn we are near neighbours. You've shared some really great music here recently. It' strange when this site draws people from across the world that we should live so close. It would be good to converse more off the site. Email me if you'd like to do the same.

@Wallofsound. Here are those scans if you need them.

I also sent a message to your Tony Levin site.

Thanks for this. Does anyone have any news on Malcolm Griffiths' activities these days? Great trombonist.

Thanks Andy! Lovely stuff. BTW, while exploring Beckett's discography, I found this one with Rutherford and Oxley http://www.discogs.com/Giorgio-Gaslini-Giorgio-Gaslini-Meets-Jean-Luc-Ponty-Steve-Lacy-Harry-Becket-Tony-Oxley-Gianni-Bedor/release/1960539 -- anybody heard it?

I have one of these shows from a different source. The Taylor is either 76 or 79 but I'll need to check.

I have a Courney Pine/Harry Beckett show (or half of one on a West Wind CD, don't have the other volume), Any interest in that?

fent99, I am certainly interested in Beckett & Pine Live, as it is currently not available as cd nor download on eMusic.com, where number of other Beckett albums (including those on ITM and Spotlite labels) is possible to find. I would also like to get his Passion and Possession with Joachim Kühn, Django Bates and Keith Tippett.

The Harry Beckett segment is from a BBC Radio 3 Jazz Today broadcast on 6 Oct. 1986 presented by Charles Fox.

Many thanks to all involved!

Now I also found out about the other two segments. Both are from BBC Radio 1 Sounds of Jazz broadcasts presented by Peter Clayton.

The John Taylor Sextet was aired on 28 May 1978.
Alan Skidmore/Malcolm Griffiths Quintet was aired on 26 August 1979.
