....Requests

Requests, broken links, re-ups and related topics go here. It may be easier for admins to be attentive to these topics if they are put here and not under the individual posts. There's no guarantee that we may be able to respond to everything, but we'll give it a try.

I've deleted the previous 'Requests' post as it was becoming a bit unwieldy.
I shall start the requests with the last one from the previous thread.

Hi Tantris - unfortunately I do not have a rip nor the LP. Would like to hear it as well, though.
But should you want to buy a copy I believe the label still has copies for sale.

Ein stolzer Preis...as we say in Germany (a proud price in English - don't know wether it translates the meaning...)

Searching for Robert Rockwell III - Androids. If anyone could post that, I would really appreciate it. Been looking for it for a while. Thanks.

This seems as good a place as any to ask this, and you guys the best people to ask:
I've read "As serious as your life" by Val Wilmer a couple of times, and I'm curious if there are other books that can give a biographical picture and something of a timeline for this music in a similar vein? Especially something like that for European and Japanese musicians I've discovered through this blog, which I really love but know almost nothing about. Thanks!

Tantris said...

Hello onxidlib - I thought they had sold out some time ago. Hmmm, I wonder if I could justify spending that on a 2-LP set?

Soybean - I spent some time a few years back reading several books on free improv, and from that I'd recommend Mike Heffley's 'Northern Sun, Southern Moon'. I think there have been a few more recent ones, some of which are mentioned on the freejazzblog.org site. I'd also be interested in a guide to the Japanese musicians that Nick has introduced here, most of whom are new to me, if such a guide exists.

Soybean said...

Tantris - Thanks very much! 'Northern sun, southern moon' looks like exactly what I've been looking for. I'll check out the website, too.
A lot of the Japanese stuff has been really great. This blog has been a watershed of growth as a fan. Knowing more is always good!
Cheers!

The seminal book about Japanese Free Music seems to be Teruto Soejima's "Nihon Furi Jiyazushi". I say 'seems' as I'm not fluent in Japanese ;-)http://www.yesasia.com/global/nihon-furi-jiyazushi/1003837336-0-0-0-en/info.html
(I really would like to read the book in English. I even would buy the book and offer it to someone who would be able and willing to translate it into English.
Furthermore I would pay for it. The best would be if there would be more interested readers. They could join their forces - not at least their pecuniary efforts - only a dream?)

For the European scene there's Ekkehard Jost's book "Europas Jazz 1960–80".
I have two copies - the older one is full of marks - I tried to get or at least to hear the recordings reviewed in the book. Not at least through IS and several friends and acquaintances I got to know through blogging et.al. I almost succeded....

Also important were three books from Bert Noglik > "Jazz im Gespräch", "Jazzwerkstatt International" and "Klangspuren - Wege improvisierter Musik".

New impulses were available through the books and articles of Peter Niklas Wilson
"Hear and Now. Gedanken zur improvisierten Musik" (he played contrabass among others with Anthony Braxton).

Unfortunately the above books are available in German only....

I recommend Heffley's book strongly!
But also (in English)
- George Lewis "A Power Stronger Than Itself" (about the AACM mostly).
- John Corbett "Extended Play"
- Graham Lock "Chasing The Vibration" and "Forces In Motion". The last one portrays The Anthony Braxton Quartet during their tour in England (1985) with Lock on board.

Recently I've bought a book which is recommended heartily > Trevor Barre's "Beyond Jazz: Plink, Plonk & Scratch - The Golden Age Of Free Music In London 1966-1972"

These are a few of the texts I would recommend for a start (and further----->).

A little research at the www will offer some other texts from Mike Heffley about the subject.

And not at least I want to point out the first and only book in English with Peter Brötzmann: "Peter Brötzmann - We thought we could change the world" Conversations with Gérard Rouy" (2015) > http://www.wolke-verlag.de/broetzmann-world.html

Soybean said...

onxidlib: Wow, thanks. That's an excellent list.

Regarding Soejima, it sounds like you have a modest project to take to kickstarter/pozzible/et al.

I'll get reading, then.

Tantris said...

The best would be if there would be more interested readers. They could join their forces - not at least their pecuniary efforts - only a dream?

I'd also be interested in seeing if we could convert your dream into reality.

Hi and thanks very much for all the wonderful and otherwise unavailable music.
Does anyone know how I can safely subscribe to premium access at 1fichier? They no longer accept Paypal or any charge cards for payment. Zeevex is not readily available in the U.S. and bank transfer fees would be more than the cost of the subscription. Thanks again.

Hi everyone
in Mark Weber's Bobby Bradford Timeline you can read:

— Rejoins Ornette for three-night gig at Slugs, East Village, NYC and recorded SCIENCE FICTION album @ CBS Studios, 49 East 52nd Street, NY, 6th floor in Studio E — Bobby misses the first day of school in La Puente where he is employed as 6th grade classroom teacher — These are ironically the first formal recordings of Bobby with Ornette (BB on these sessions Sept 9 & 10) — About these sessions, years ago Bobby told me how Ornette had used a sort of makeshift traffic signal gadget to let soloists know when their solo was over, it was a red light-green light set-up, and I have often thought about this device, and in a recent conversation with Bobby he said you can hear a note of his at the tail end of one of Dewey’s solos because of misdirections from the Go-Stop lights [telcon 10mar2o10] — And so, lo & behold, in the booklet for the 2009 Dave Brubeck Quartet 3-cd Sony Legacy Edition of TIME OUT there is a photo of this traffic signal (a lot less homemade than I had imagined) in Studio E !

*The Slugs gig was first weekend of September: Friday, Saturday, Sunday, September 3, 4, & 5 — recordings exist of Sept 3 & 5 recorded by the painter John E. D’Agostino — Radio host Ben Young WKCR aired the extant recordings on his Ornette birthday show March 9, 2o14

Did anyone record the broadcasting? Could you upload on incostant sol?

Thanks

Alessandro

As there seem to be several Italians contributing here, maybe this won't be an absurd request: Does anyone out there have any recordings by the late Italian corpofonista Enzo Del Re? A biography and compilation CD of his work appeared last year in Italy, but I understand that he sold privately-produced cassettes, including a 4-cassette "etymological opera" about his homeland in Mola, at his live shows that are absolutely unavailable anywhere else. Thanks in advance for any information too.

Thank you Ex-Lucky for the BB but for me mp3 under 320 is generally not acceptable due to the poor sound quality and dynamic, it is the case with this file. Due to the fact that I prefer quality than quantity my request is still available: Billy bang Changing Season in flac.

Ex-Lucky, thank you! Your service is appreciated by me.

I have some request maybe for official post because they are all rare and interesting records in my opinion:
-Cossi Anatz Jazz Afro Occitan on Palm
and 3 Walter Zuber Armstrong:
-Alpha & Omega, High Place, Hitana
I was able to find all of them but on mp3 low quality and transfer was not so good. The high quality of the flac transfer provided by the contributors here makes me dream of those records in a "inconstant sol" reissue version!

Hello to all

I have posted some month ago some request about Toshi Tsuchitori but perhaps nobody saw it. My message is for the generous contributors like Onxidlib, Andy, Kinabalu, Nick, Sotise or others who are concerned, if some of you can re-up part or the total Toshi Tsuchitori albums that have been previously posted here some years ago it would be great.
thank in advance.

Ernst Grgo Nebhuth said...

Hi Nod y - I've searched my collection and my hd's but couldn't find any Toshi Tsuchitori except
http://inconstantsol.blogspot.de/2013/05/toshi-tsuchitori-mototeru-takagi.html.
This I shall re-up soon.
And these two rips with Tsuchitori are still available

http://inconstantsol.blogspot.de/2011/05/milford-graves-meditation-among-us.html
http://inconstantsol.blogspot.de/2011/01/derek-bailey-duo-trio-improvisation.html

I fear I've missed the chance to grab the other one's when they were still available....

Nod y said...

Hi Onxidlib

I have supposed that you haven't got the files because I know that when you have some you re-up very fast. if others people have them it would be great, your re-up of the Tsuchitori Takagi will be appreciated. Perhaps the others solo albums will come back !!

Nod y said...

Hi Onx again
it appears that it is Nick who have posted all the tsuchitori solo albums, if I'm right Nick is still around this blog so if someone can let him know in case he haven't seen my request... Many thanks for the great job here.

Ernst Grgo Nebhuth said...

Yes Nod y - the Tsuchitori posts are from Nick.
It seems Nick is quite busy these days in real life - so I post new links for him as long as I have the music...
But I'm confident that he reads the comments from time to time and - if time permits - will do a re-up for us.

Nick said...

Hi - sorry not to respond very quickly - but I have had a lot of work and frail parents to keep busy with.

rev.b said...

When you have time, could you please re-up:

Nod y said...

@Onxidlib it is not the correct place to say thank you I should post my thank in the post of Tsuchitori/takagi but thank you for the re-up.
@Nick
Thank for your answer and I just can say that I hope you will have some more times in the future to re-up the other Tsuchitori. I meet him some years ago when he was working in paris with Peter Brooks for theatre and he is a very interesting guy who almost forgot that he made those records!

Nod y said...

thanks in advance.

thank in advance if someone can share.

Ernst Grgo Nebhuth said...

I have the LP. I've ripped it already some years ago for my broadcast.
But before posting it would be appreciated if somemone could confirm that the LP is OOP.
I know that the label is still operating but as far as I know they do not have a website.

Nod y said...

Hi Onxidlib.
The only thing that I can say from the producer and founder of Hard Edge Velibor Pedewski is that he was not happy with the sound of this recording (don't know why) and he have sold all the copies without wanting to re-press it. So some copies are perhaps still in the second hand market but not directly from the producer. yes the label is still active, less than one year ago Mr Pedewski aka hard Edge have published two cd's: one with Wadada Leo Smith and one with Graham Haynes and Brandon Ross, both are electro-experimental with jazz. Pedewski describe himself as a sound designer.

Nod y said...

To be totally sure I have just checked at dmg who provides the hard edge titles and the Threacgill is gone for good.

This is a message for Ernst Grgo Nebhuth or for all who should be concerned. Two great albums by the Contact Trio have been posted some weeks ago. I recently had the chance to hear one older album but from a tape.
