It become more and more crazy here, people doesn't leave comments on the feeling of listening but always asking if we have this or that, as if this blog was a municipal library, if it goes on I will personally stop to contribute.
ReplyDeleteThank you Nick for this post, I had an mp3 version after the lp that I owned ten or twenty years ago, at the time when not so many people where interested by Horo records, except for the Sun Ra albums of course. It is nice to play again this session, all the musicians works well despite the different background of each other. A typical successful and nice session.
I don't believe asking for what people may or may not have is "crazy".
ReplyDeleteThis, however, may be slightly going in that direction:
"@Nick
I think that the stylus jump on the beginning of the track "spirits" can you check and fix if possible?"
Thank-you very much
ReplyDeleteThank you very much...

ReplyDeleteyes crazy is not the right word, impolite would be more appropriate.
Great set. Thanks very much!
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, most users of this blog are lonely people, and their experience of life most likely involve very few people caring about what opinions they may have about any kind of topics. So to be expressing something of a personal emotional experience with music (or arts, politics etc) is of so very few value to the majority of the world population that users of this blog grab the music and have whatever experience they have in silence, in anonymity, and persuing their research towards whatever direction, in solitude.
ReplyDeleteI would suggest to not take this personal, it's a human thing. It's very difficult to gather people towards a cause or a common purpose. This blog offers music, but if there is to be any other kind of proposition besides music, perhaps then...
@Dominic
ReplyDeleteIn the first years of this blog, I discovered it retrospectively, the comments were of much better quality and also more numerous. Today we have followers who always leave the same comment totally impersonal or other followers who constantly ask for such or such record. While everything we post is downloaded dozens of times, only the contributors of this blog are kind enough to re-post when there are requests. I will not name anyone but just look at the comments of the posts of the last five years to see that there are regular followers, how many of them share with the newcomers what we have proposed to them? Mew23 is very generous, yet he is certainly not the only one to have some files requested, others have them but they only reappear to download the new posts in a totally selfish way without even wanting to participate in the exchange .
But what bothers me the most is that even though we have rules not to post records available on the new home market and we are the only ones to impose this rule, I think we are also becoming deleterious. This blog was originally intended to work for the preservation and dissemination of more or less rare recordings, is now probably increasingly assimilated to a place of gratuity like the others. While it is sad to think that some people are so irresponsible for not doing anything to support a music they initially love, it is likely that these irresponsible people are an important part of those who are following us now. I personally have contempt for such mediocrity and if I continue to contribute it is only for the gratitude for those who founded this blog and those who continue to make it living. After two years following this blog, it seemed obvious that I too had to contribute, but contributing is also buying records and not spending time begging or browsing blogs to increase its big hard drive without any thought for the community or the musicians who try to keep this music alive.
May I just add a poor "thank you" ?
ReplyDeleteI have no money now and receive financial help every month (accident of life), I have only straight jazz CDs from the time I could buy. And this blog, among others, is like a permanent lifeline for me. Jazz save my life and I have only this to survive.
I abandon all modesty here because I feel hurt by the remarks made above since I can't offer anything you don't already have! I've lost everything but I don't say these private details of my life to make me complain or to attract pity, no need, I have 62 years, I say it because maybe others are in my case...anyway, if I could better express my gratitude to those who are so generous here, I would like to be able to do so... I am ready to offer a few euros to contribute to purchases. That's all I can do, I'm afraid.(Deepl translation).
Hi Bhowani - you don't need to offer Euros! Thanks for your comment - here and on all other posts.
