Paul Bley- Mr Joy 1968

An Alternative to the rip kindly shared here by Chris , my rip from a scratchy 70's reissue on semi bootleg label..Trip..
A great record and one that's been surprisingly unissued on CD... something which we deplore!
Perhaps someday , the boffins who curate Mosaic records might consider issuing a deluxe Box-Set , of Bley's important  60's Trio recordings.
.
Enjoy , and please support Bley by buying his current cd's and fascinating book of interviews with Norman Meehan, "Time will Tell' from Bley's own site if possible.

  2. I'll 2nd that idea. Mosaic hasn't touched Bley as far as I know and given his influence, it’s way overdue. Thx for the link to his site. Things aren't cheap there, but the fact that in this case most of the money probably goes to the performer, unheard of in the “music business", it’s well worth splurging on any anything you don't yet have.

  3. Thanks Sotise this is certainly one of my favourite Bley albums. You must have a quality pick-up. My rip back in 2011 was done with average equipment and with replay gain something I woke up to a few years later. I may have to re-do again given time.

  4. Woah!...this a real treat, Sotise, thank you.

I thought I had all of Paul's early stuff but I don't think I have ever seen this one before. Strange that it's never had a CD re-issue. Much of his output from this time has been released on his own label, IAI; perhaps he never had access to the tapes from this session.

    Nice sounding rip, too.

  5. Hello. Thanks for posting the new rip. I've updated a post on Mr. Joy from a few months back to include it. I'll remove it, if you want. It is located here: http://wp.me/p3MZSz-Qq

  7. Many Thanks!
This and the radio canada lp sound great. However, pitch on both of those rips is a semitone flat/slow. Found out by comparison with the same tunes on other records and with different rips of the same records. must be your turntable(?). Still, Thanks a lot!

  8. Anon, yeah i know , its so minor its almost imperceptible, it can be adjusted using a program, its not a belt issue... my problem is that buying a contemporary turntable as good as this late 70's thing , would cost me so much, i simply cant afford it... most turntables now sound crappy unless you can afford something high end, where as in the late 70's early 80's mid range stuff was great.

  10. Mew, so sorry it's taken me _five months_ to notice your kind re-up. I think I need to improve my email-notifications savvy.
    This is much appreciated!
