ReplyDeleteSunny Murray with Andrew HIll - should be excellent.
ReplyDeleteVery curious to hear them playing together.

oh wow
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot man !
ReplyDeleteWonderful! Thank you for this gem!
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot.Beautifull.
ReplyDeleteThanks very much, a most appreciated post.
ReplyDeleteNot something I expected. A bit of a treat.
ReplyDeleteExcellent, thank you! Hill and Murray were one of those things I never realized I wanted but as soon as you say it it makes too much sense not to have happened.
ReplyDeleteRe 'unknown location' - my notes from (maybe different?) Dime download say:-
ReplyDeleteRecorded at Studio Charles Trenet at the Maison de Radio France, Paris, November 4, 1999.
1. Ashes (18:24)
2. 15/8 (51:43)
3. Announcer talks (3:44)
just listened to this dl and it's better than i could've expected, primarily to hear sunny back hill. lewis i only know from a french tapscott album. he is almost irrelevant, merely making his presence known amidst the swirling chemistry. this is some of murray's finest latter-day work, all on brushes. his sensitivity to what hill is doing (impenetrable to many at this stage) is breathtaking, hearkening back to the days with ayler. it's that strong and close.
ReplyDeleteI Agree with the above comment, the chemistry is astounding, and Murray is much better recorded than on many official releases, especially the BYGs and Philly Jazz lps!!
ReplyDeleteTo my Ears he is sounding better than ever, and he certainly serves Hill's music better than many drummers... a Master!!..we love you Sunny Murray!
For the track titles, as bventure says track 2 is announced as "Ashes" and track 3 is mostly an epic version of "15/8" for the first forty minutes. After the applause the trio plays "Cantarnos" from all the way back to Black Fire (his Blue Note debut with Joe Henderson, Richard Davis, and Roy Haynes).
ReplyDeleteI consider it unfortunate that some bloggers adopt identity of musicians. In particular, Sam Rivers D and, to a lesser extent, Dolphing Mings. While the musicians in the identity are outstanding, how can you justify adopting their names without permission from them?
ReplyDeleteI'm giving my actual name as an identity.
BIG THX!...
ReplyDeleteThis is great, thanks!
