What a long, strange trip ...

This blog is now in its 15th year, started back in February 2007 by Sotise, our correspondent from down under. Bundles of people have contributed over the years, some gone, others holding on and yet others joining and putting their distinctive mark on the contents and direction of the blog. Currently we have about half a dozen active posters and some very generous followers, judging from inputs to our contributions section, but we're always willing to recruit more. Potential authors can get in touch with us c/o our Blogger email addresses. We've had contributors from three continents, with a preponderance of Europeans overall.
The emphasis has been on the free/improv/experimental side of jazz, but with excursions into contemporary and classical music, from Europe and beyond. There are no rules, however; the blog is whatever the posters make of it, and we'd like to keep it that way. We focus on posting out of print material with the objective of drawing attention to music which otherwise might have remained out of sight and out of mind. Due to spam and some past experiences of personal attacks, we 've had to institute a moderator system, so comments may not appear right away, but they will be published.
With these few words, heading on ...

Hi Kinabalu,
happy new year!
Very good idea to separate general comments into three parts.
A Very Happy New Year to all my old friends here!
For a short while, Inconstant Sol carried, for me at least, the living spirit of the old Church Number Nine blog and its community of sharers/appreciators. For a long time now, though, this wonderful hub of generosity and pleasure has stood on its own as a unique and valued place in the universe. Congrats to all participants and here's to the revelations and epiphanies to come.
To all three of you, Happy New Year and long may we all prosper!
Hello there (again)
thanks for the encouragement, in fact, i would like to join the posters intermittently - right now there is some spare time available... - so if someone would care to open the door -
and, of course: happy new year to you all - tantr... soti... onx... ricc... etc etc , you know who you are!
all the best from
Owombat
can someone explain the "exile on moan street" link inflation - please.
Mona?
i don't get it.
thanks
O.
Hi Owombat,
we need an email address in order to send an invitation. You can contact me c/o the email address in the Blogger profile.
this was nice to read. as a youngster who only discovered the glorious world of free/spiritual jazz far too late in the game, i really appreciate blogs like this. thanks for all you do!
Happy New Year and thanks to all of you who post stuff.
The blog is great! I had many a musical revelation through the stuff I found here.
Keep up the good work!
Hello inconstant sol. My name is Michael King and I am contacting you on behalf of the widow of Elton dean, Marino Dean, Hazel Miller of Ogun Records, and Riccardo Bergerone who privately recorded Elton Dean's Ninesense at the 100 Club, March 5th, 1979. This recording was sent to me by Riccardo towards a 3 disc set that my record 'label of love' Reel Recordings is producing this year. How it reached inconstant sol I have no idea, but this recording, properly remastered, will be released as 2 cd's along with a dvd of Elton's Quintet. Certainly you can understand our wish to have this download removed from your site. Please contact me at miking.reelrecording@gmail.com with your response. I appreciate your attention to this. Best wishes, Michael King/Reel Recordings.
I see that the links have been removed which obviously is the right thing to do under the circumstances. Did anyone contact Michael King directly about this? I would encourage everyone who downloaded this (and those who didn't) to purchase the thing once it's commercially available. Reel is a fine enterprise, and deserves support for its archeological excavations into past masters. The blog has benefited at least once before from his remastering skills.
I totally agree with you and I certainly will buy it - as I did with his previous releases.
Today I bought a new book about Tony Oxley (in german).
And on page 48 there is a reference to Inconstant Sol!
The chapter is about the tour and recording of Lee Konitz with Derek Bailey, Gavin Bryars and Tony Oxley > http://inconstantsol.blogspot.com/2008/06/lee-konitz-quartet-with-derek-bailey.html
Really - what a long, strange trip.
The book is by Ulrich Kurth "Tony Oxley - The 4th Quarter of the Triad" (Fünf Jahrzente improvisierter Musik.
It's published by Wolke Verlag >

I'll continue reading the book...
hi,
i added your blog to our blogwatch.
and please link us at your blog, too as a support.

Hello.
I would like to let all of you know that there is a new web radio that plays a mix of jazz and world sound 24/24. You can hear it and check the playlist at
http://www.creativesoundradio.com
Dig it.
My usual procedure is to read the post here and listen the artist from Vkontakte. User based music library in Vkontakte is wide enough and wider every day. There is little you cant find form there by simple search. Just to listen. I have found a lot. Thanks!
Continued thanks for this great blog. Wanted to call attention to another blog that I had not come across before. There are a few posts that might be of interest to Inconstant Sol readers.

Apologies, but I'm a bit confused with the new downloading facilities - tried to do it with the Toshiko and Thad Jones, and the Yahoo player came up, played a track, then stopped; I couldn't then see any way to download the rest of the concerts. Are you able to help please? Sphere.
Hi, a few years ago Ricardo shared some great stuff in the larger comments section. One of them was a WSQ show from the late 70s. Can there be a re-up on that. It is a great item that I think is lost to me now. -Thanks
Hello, excuse my writing because I use the google translator .... my name is Andrea and I am the brother of Richard Beduschi, who died in September. I am writing to you asked how to get in touch with claudio mencarell (ilario rozen) to give him all the material of Richard, numerous recordings. I would be grateful. please email me at vimanone@alice.it
Hello Andrea,
good to hear from you. I have the email address, so I will pass it along in a separate email.
Could you eventually re-up
"Cecil Taylor - Yoshi's, December 1998" and "Anthony Braxton Quartet - Leeds - November 1985"? Or does anybody else have a link to those concerts? Best regards & thanks for all your work on this blog, which is one of the very best ones!

Here's wishing all the inhabitants of the SOLar system a healthy and happy 2014!
I've been reading many posts here; you guys are fascinating, the knowledge you bring, even apart from the music you bring. Thank you.
You must be frustrated to have to repeat the same message, especially with Rapidshare changing their policies I swear every month. When Onxidlib has to repeat "the link is NOT dead - only my public traffic is exhausted," to the point that you can hear his growing annoyance that so many people evidently cannot read the comments around them; well, I sympathize.
Maybe you can put in on the front page (or anyplace that offers downloads from Rapidshare), top, bigger font, blinking (okay, not blinking) that reads: "If you are downloading free from Rapidshare, know that Rapidshare has a cap for free users. Probably the download that you desire is still there (unless it says "file not found"); try again tomorrow. Or two days from now. Or a week from now. Rapidshare is a bitch that way. Cheers, inconstant sol."
Or not. Just a suggestion from an admirer.
cheers, Scraps

I can't believe that I randomly found your blog yesterday! the stuff here is mind blowing!! you either have stuff that I never imagined seeing in my life, or stuff I've never heard of at all! amazing collection! Thank you very much for posting it here! please keep up the good work!!
Hi greg Kuchmek, i got here several months ago and this site (one of many) still blows my mind... deeply...lol.
in that vein: Here is a note worth remembering!!! (thanks to infinitefool.blogspot.com/ for pointing it out to me)
"Don't forget that Steve Coleman is giving away 16 of his albums over at his web site. Check out his essay explaining why, while you're at it... ESSAY: m-base.com/give_away.html

tell them I said "holy shit!" or some other irreverent exclamation!
Can anyone help with recordings of Bley / Surman/ Di Castri / Oxley group? I can't get enough of Tony Oxley's work - thanks in advance

I noticed something at this other site by a "chat" guy named "slipperman" a little compendium of Brian Eno which is essentially "everything ever done there is, and is there, by eno"
(who knows how long it will last)

I will let you figure out how it works...
hi all,
the odds of this are low i realize, but would someone not only have the bobby naughton "nature's consort" lp, but would also be willing to post it?!
i've been looking for this one since i first saw a post with its mention on the seemingly defunct but still excellent "nine grey chairs" blog. i guess that it makes it 5 years, and i can't find it anywhere (other than i saw it on ebay once, unfortunately a bit too late).
if there is a kind soul out there, it thank him/her in advance.

Hi, I have quite a few recordings I made personally a few years back around the SF bay area. There was a very good live spot called the Jazz House and some great things came through. I was able to set up a nice recordings rig and got very good quality. If you are interested I could DB them to the moderator. Artists include Tim Berne, Conference Call, Brotzmann, Lucas NIggli, Tony Malaby and on and on. I did get the artists permission to record as well in each case.
Hi Unknown - why not becoming a poster/blogger by yourself.
You are invited to join Inconstant Sol.
You can drop me a mail and I'll invite you to IS.
My email-address is grgo62@gmx.de
Hi @ Inconstant
Thanks for the great music as always. Can a suggest you update your Mike Osborne links as you've somehow managed to have him references three times - in the list of musicians - which causes some confusion.
Keep up the great work.
@joesh: Ah, I haven't noticed, but done (with the correct spelling)!
Hey Anonymous, the directors cut of the Woodstock movie downloaded and played fine, thanks for the Mega upload. Did you know that it would have fit all in one piece on Mega and still give you a free download?
(free kim dotcom... oh yeah he is out and New Zeland is very honorably letting him live there, his native home, despite the record companies in the USA wanting to kill him... still he is not as great a hero as Victor Assange (and his crew of martyrs) IMHO
I have done a small bit of "karma yoga" work for the cause and taken the pains of downloading the mystery mr ra movie from rapidshare dowloading a file of this size from rapidshare means using every trick i could think of .. rapidshare now claims that file chunks above 300 meg or so only will be downloadable if you pay them for the service... however that does not seem to apply at key times of day (ie the graveyard shift for download... like 3 AM to 8 AM here)
I also posted the on a comment under the place i got the rapidshare from... the sun ra free dl site (everyone knows what I mean right??? )
I hold ra to be a greater saint of music than for instance John Coltrane... for who i also have a godly respect... but, in the vein of putting a candle high rather than under a chair, so that all may see.. here is mystery mr ra:::
Mystery, Mr Ra (on Mega.. which as of this date delivers a file in a civilized way... who knows how it will work 3 months from now)

Whew, I have been wondering around in blogs for several hours and had forgotten where I saw something interesting... A Sam Rivers album from 1998, big band of improvisers, that I never knew about, I had left it alone cause it was on that uploaded.net server that i dislike almost as much as rapidshare... and i was planning on going to "Lossless World" and dicking around with his tricky links... most of which are uploaded.net... I forgot what blog I had seen it on, here it is... This Rivers really looks good.. I hope it is:

Hi Mazubi - thanks for your contribution.
But this LP has been re-issued last year.
See > http://www.storyvillerecords.com/products/1977-1987-1038431
But at Inconstant Sol we don't post in print recordings - whatever the format (and I would like to add - the price).
Therefore I delete your comment, sorry!
Oops, my bad. I somehow managed to miss the reissue, since it's been retitled..
Groove on, Bro.
If anyone sees this and has it available, could you kindly re-up "Wave" by Masahiko Togashi, Gary Peacock, and Masahiko Satoh? Cannot find it anywhere. Already have eternal gratitude for this site, but this will make it eternal gratitude x2.

Hello: If anyone has recommendations for record stores to visit in Tokyo, I would be very grateful to hear them. (I know of a few recommendations floating around online, but I'd like the inconstant sol version -- places where there's a decent shot of finding some Peacock-in-Japan LPs, etc.)
Thanks and best wishes to everyone.
decided to delete inconstant sol from my bookmarks (after following this blog for years)when I noticed the hissing of the palestinian flag on your side.
farewell, the times they are a-changin`...
Anon, we never knew you, but have duly noted your decision with a twinge of regret. The times are indeed a-changin' (for the worse).

JJ, can you please re-up the Big Soul Media? Thanks!
Hi everyone
recently bigOzine downloaded (my request) Ornette Coleman - Skies of America - Reggio Emilia 1990, if someone is interested I think you can downloaded.
In Mark Weber's Bobby Bradford Timeline you can read:
— Rejoins Ornette for three-night gig at Slugs, East Village, NYC and recorded SCIENCE FICTION album @ CBS Studios, 49 East 52nd Street, NY, 6th floor in Studio E — Bobby misses the first day of school in La Puente where he is employed as 6th grade classroom teacher — These are ironically the first formal recordings of Bobby with Ornette (BB on these sessions Sept 9 & 10) — About these sessions, years ago Bobby told me how Ornette had used a sort of makeshift traffic signal gadget to let soloists know when their solo was over, it was a red light-green light set-up, and I have often thought about this device, and in a recent conversation with Bobby he said you can hear a note of his at the tail end of one of Dewey’s solos because of misdirections from the Go-Stop lights [telcon 10mar2o10] — And so, lo & behold, in the booklet for the 2009 Dave Brubeck Quartet 3-cd Sony Legacy Edition of TIME OUT there is a photo of this traffic signal (a lot less homemade than I had imagined) in Studio E !
*The Slugs gig was first weekend of September: Friday, Saturday, Sunday, September 3, 4, & 5 — recordings exist of Sept 3 & 5 recorded by the painter John E. D’Agostino — Radio host Ben Young WKCR aired the extant recordings on his Ornette birthday show March 9, 2o14
Did anyone record the broadcasting? Could you upload on incostant sol?
Thanks
Alessandro
on March 20 2014, I posted a "mega.nz" 4 part link for the video Woodstock (yes the "woodstock" movie)... Now about 2 years later, mega sent me a notice that they r removing part 2 because of a complaint. (the guy in the movie attending woodstock said "the people" owned it, i was going on his advice)
That is the first time I have had a "complaint"... so even though it took two years i am feeling a little tentative right now...
I guess someone might as well remove all 4 links for it at the above said date... "3 days of peace love and LSD"
hello ... is a re-upload of Mudai Trio " Sans Titre " (Ninety-One 1993) possible ..? thanks ! d.L.
This might not seem appropriate for InSol - but isn't that what InSol is for?
'Acquainted With the Night' (from vinyl).

Is it OK to put this up? It is copied from a CDr of a post that Lym put up on IncSol years ago but the page seems to have disappeared.

@Ernst,
My apologies.
I am having problems. I left my 'happy birthday' message in the 'Ten years and going' section but the comment appeared on the 'Free Form' section. I can't find the Lacy Wuppertal gig scrolling back through the Lacy pages but your link takes me there. I'm sure I left the Lacy and Burgon links in the Contribution section, where did they actually appear?
@ Martin Your links appeared three comments above - really no big problem, though.
Hi Anonymous - I'm back from Athens (Greece) as today. Didn't had any access to the web (and I haven't missed it). So I do not know who deleted your links.
I only delete personal insults or similar stuff. I do not censor opinions wether I like them or not - period.

OK; didn't know about MPS recording. All my excuses.
Hi
Thanks alifib for cooperation. Appreciated!!

Thanks again :-)
I found several more Riccardo shares in my collection and re upped them and I think that's it as far as ones I have that needed to be re upped. Maybe I will find some more but I did a fairly thorough comparison/analysis. Cheers!
Hello Mr Inconstant sol, i don't know who you are nor where you stand, somewhere in the blogsphere. Just to say thank you for your innumerable comments and infos upon rare discs and musicians. It's a real source. Blessings. (daunik.lazro@orange.fr)
Hello Daunik Lazro, thank you for your kind comment. We're glad our little website is useful for you.
And I would like to say >Thank You< for the great music you're playing over more than 40 years now. From your recordings with Saheb Sarbib to the more recent music with Didier Lasserre and Benjamin Duboc.
Cheers
BTW - there is no Mr. Inconstant Sol but rather a few friends who happen to enjoy similar sounds.
Hello "collective" Inc. sol, nice to read your kind answer, it warms my (old) heart. If you leave a physical address on my email, i would be pleased to send you some records you don't have. I think for instance to the 5tet "A pride of lions" with my elder music "brother" Joe McPhee, 2 great bassists and Chad Taylor (who is just a miracle) on drums. Issued 2 years ago on a confidential french label, "the bridge sessions", but sold out.
Also if you miss some other titles, please tell me. Cheers.

INITIATIVE LET'S CONTINUE IN BLOGGER
Hello music lover friend, I'm trying to make ourselves known and thus have more followers. For this I have created the initiative 'Let's continue on Blogger'
The initiative is designed to create a small community of music blogs of all genres that know each other and collaborate with each other, in addition to helping new bloggers who are taking their first steps in this world, like us.
You just have to read the instructions at this link http://bit.ly/4aALZkY
And don't forget to make it known, the more people know it, the better.
The comment you can leave is this example: Hello! I am also part of this initiative. Thank you for stopping by my blog and following it; I'm back and here to stay. I hope you like the content.
