  1. A very sad news. From his partnership with Don Cherry or Rolf Kühn to his solo recordings in small formations or orchestra and also for the work that he have done in the creative music studio, his contribution to music is essential.
Two of my favorites albums from him are :
Music Universe - peace church concert vol 1
    -we are you
    -from now on
    -with silence
I wrote two but here are four, just to say that almost all of his records are essentials for serious listeners

  2. To my ears Karl lifted every ensemble he was part of. As impressive as this line up is, I’ll wager that’s true here as well. Thanks again Nick. I don’t believe I’ve heard this before.

    NO MAN IS AN ISLAND
    KARL BERGER 1995 IN DONAUESCHINGEN
    BY NINA POLASCHEGG

He was a vibraphonist, pianist, listener, teacher. In April 2023, Karl Berger died at the age of 88 in his adopted country of USA. After the native of Heidelberg met numerous American jazz greats in Paris in the 1960s, he went to New York and later to Woodstock. There he founded the Creative Music Studio in 1973 with his wife, the singer Ingrid Sertso. Karl Berger was a researcher all his life and was open to many possible forms of improvisation. To be heard today: his project "No Man Is an Island", premiered in 1995 at the Donaueschinger Musiktage.
