@Magogiallo
I will download the Bill Cole thanks in advance for sharing. While preparing my radio show I have planned to play one extract of the Trevor Watts box set that we talked few days before and I have chosen the cd with Gibran Cervantes. I remember this cd that Trevor Watts recommended
https://www.discogs.com/fr/Enjambre-Acústico-Urukúngolo-Diálogos-Intestinales/release/15431715
The story of this cd is special. Gibran have recorded with Ciro Baptistat and Trevor Watts but most of the music have been lost in a hard disk crash, the few music that have been rescued is not the one that should be previously published but it is the only survival of the session, you may be interested by this.

@ correct silence, thanks for the tip, Enjambre-Acústico-Urukúngolo-Diálogos Intestinales seems very interesting. @ Osiris thank you very much for the Bowie brothers' concerts, yes, at least the first is not the best recording, unfortunately bc the music is pretty great. Around half the set Lester takes a solo soon joined by Shaw and the rest...things get wilder for a bit.Love it! Joseph was 22! Thanks a lot also to orchiddoctor who recorded and shared these and many other amazing gigs.

all the superbe projects recorded by french drummer and band organiser Jean Noël Cognard are now available in digital format, they were only previously available in box set lp.
Particularly interesting is the fantastic group with Keith Tippett, Paul Rogers and Michel Pilz under the name l'étau "choses clandestines".
Also brigantin with Connie and Johannes Bauer + Barry Guy titled "la fièvre de l'indépendance"
and last but not least Entre Choc with Marcio Mattos, Mark Charrig, Michel Pilz and Quentin Rollet, all is available here with a fantastic sound created by great sound engineer Patrick Muller

Thank you correct silenc for the pointer to this label's Bandcamp page. Although I have those LPs I might want to buy me a digital file for the three LP box sets.
BTW - Michel Pilz told me some weeks ago that Cognard plans to release another recording with Pilz and Tipppett (don't know the other musicians - but certainly Cognard will be also on the upcoming release).

correct silence said...

@Ernst
In fact Jean Noël reached Keith Tippett few weeks before he passed away because he wanted to do a new recording with him and others musicians (he didn't have exact names at this time). But finally keith Tippett passed away. I talked with jean Noël few days after and I suggested him some musicians. jean Noël like to play with his hero, mostly musicians from the seventies and mostly europeans but many are dead or very old. I suggested him Howard Riley who could be a very good pianist in place of Keith Tippett, surely if he have the opportunity to record a new album, Michel Pilz will be on board, they are good friends and good musical partners. But I think that due to the covid and the fact that Jean Noël always try to record on studio and on stage, this project will be delayed. We haven't talked together for a while.
Have you heard the new project of Oliver Schwerdt with Barry Guy and Baby Sommer?

Here is a news for those who have bought the superbe 4 lp box set of L'étau "choses clandestines" published in 2013; french drummer Jean Noël Cognard who created this project have decided in memory of Keith Tippett to publish the few tracks that were not published in the first box set. Around 45 minutes of music was still unpublished, here is the detail of the coming lp titled "script original"
Face A
-  premiers rôles   5:02   duo TIPPETT / PILZ
-  les châtiments corporels   12:10    Quartette
-  le sens du drame   3:25   trio TIPPETT / PILZ / ROGERS

Face B
- une vie dissipée   5:44   trio TIPPETT / ROGERS / COGNARD
- pellicule sans caméra   2:10   solo PILZ
- ne jamais gâcher l'espace   12:00   quartette -  includes a short extract of "You Ain't Gonna Know Me Cos You Think You Know Me" (Mongezi FEZA / OGUN publishing co)
- Round Midnight   3:00   duo PILZ / COGNARD

Keith TIPPETT Piano, Piano préparé,  maracas /  Michel PILZ Clarinette Basse  /  Paul ROGERS Basse "7 strings A.L.L.Bass" / Jean-Noël COGNARD  Batterie, percussion.

I had the luck to listen to this lp and the music is totally great, don't miss it if you are a real fan of european jazz in general and in Keith Tippett in particular. Normally the lp will be available late January. Indispensable !

After Nick’s recommandation on Jon Rose’s website to find some sides of his early recordings on Fringe Benefit that I haven’t yet found on his web. But I have found something else that is very touching and admirable. Some years ago Jon Rose have decided to use the fences as an instrument but also of course to point out the conflicts, abuses or injustices. One of his first trip to some fences were of course in Israël. You can read some of the relation of his trip and some sounds here:
http://www.jonroseweb.com/archive/f_projects_israel_fences.html
There are many dramatic moments in this trip but also some funny and warm moments with Palestinians and Israeli opponents.

He also played on a fence built by the American government near the Mexican border

All in all Jon Rose is not only a talented musician but also a great humanist. His website is absolutely great with lot of musical informations too. A great discover that comes from Nick’s post of Rose’s music so thank you Nick to have opened my knowledge to this musician.

Hi volumeselector- that's a great find! Thank you very much!
Are you sure about the recording date. According the Glenn Spearman sessionography the Double Trio was founded at the end of 1991.
See > http://www.bb10k.com/SPEARMAN.disc.html#91.12.16

91.12.16 • Glenn Spearman Double Trio [AR—92:34]
December 16, 1991 / Great American Music Hall, San Francisco, CA
—Venue also noted as "Heinz Afterworld Lounge".

1. Horus, SD III [58:08]  (split track at 51:01)
2. Thinking of Frank [28:44]  (followed by recording gap, track missing?)
 Glenn Spearman announcement
3. Straight Up, Straight Out [4:52]

—This was the first performance by this group.

"Glenn Spearman combined his trio... with another local trio... to form what was billed as a Double Trio.
First set was exactly one hour long... second set 45 minutes... seven-minute encore..."
—Stewart Kremsky, Cadence Vol.18 No.2 February 1992 p.2

"The Glenn Spearman Double Trio was formed in Oakland California, by Glenn Spearman and Larry Ochs in late 1991 from their two trios
(Ochs' Room and The Glenn Spearman Trio). The two tenor players had wanted to work together for several years; a special concert occurring
around the date of the 30th anniversary of Ornette Coleman's ground-breaking LP Free Jazz was planned for San Francisco; the formation
of a double trio to play music in the spirit of Coleman's double quartet seemed 'a natural.'"
—Glenn Spearman at the ROVA Saxophone Quartet Web Site at www.rova.org.

Glenn Spearman (ts, fl), Larry Ochs (ts, sss), Chris Brown (p, synth), Ben Lindgren (b), William Winant (perc), Donald Robinson (dr)

And from the same source:

90.08.00 - The concept of the Double Trio was born at Oakland's second Improvisers Festival in 1990. Spearman had long admired
the work of his friend Larry Ochs, of the Rova Saxophone Quartet—"a hellified horn player," Glenn says. Ochs was at the festival
with the new music trio Room, with pianist Chris Brown and percussionist William Winant... Spearman was appearing with
bassist Ben Lindgren and Donald Robinson. They decided to combine ail these players to create the Double Trio.
The band played its first gig at San Francisco's Great American Music Hall in December of '91.

thanks for the info. The problem with this ezztetic series is that in most case the reissues are compilations, for exemple the cd of Marion Brown "From capricorn moon to juba lee" is not containing both lp, it is not the case with the second Marion Brown that contains both why not and porto novo. So if the project is to reissue both Mike Taylor on one cd, I think it will be a compilation, pity when you consider the high quality of those two lp.
I discovered another interesting recording on bandcamp
https://michaelgregoryjackson.bandcamp.com/album/frequency-equilibrium-koan
with Julius H, Abdul W, and Pheeroan A. what a line up! It comes from a tape and the sound is not perfect but it is only on the first track that the distortion is a bit strong, after this track, the 3 others are really more than acceptable for an archival recording.

Here is a very intriguing record for those who search for something a bit different than the usual form of free jazz. The music of Lijiang Quintet is difficult to describe, it might be a sort of futuristic traditional music from south east Asia, mixed with elements of free jazz and improv. I think that people who appreciate Bergish Brandanburghishes Quartet can appreciate this record

I have just found out these on Dime: Don Cherry, Ed Blackwell, Yahya Abdul-Majid - Washington, DC January 7, 1977, Bengt Berger's Bitter Funeral Beer Band - Pori, Finland July 17, 1982 and Don Cherry, Peter Brotzmann, Fred van Hove - Han Bennink - Berlin 27 August 1971. I have no idea if in the past they had already circulated, The first two are good recordings, unfortunately the quartet is quite pourly recorded, I still have to really listen to it but sounds very interesting though. The Trio is more than one hour and half recording divided in two long improvisations and a short closure, The Funeral Beer Band is a 33 minutes impro. I will upload them if someone is interested

http://inconstantsol.blogspot.com/2018/11/muharram-1392-sagittarius-star-2011.html
thanks for the all Don Cherry, I have only listened to the one with Bennink, Brotzmann and Van Hov, the music is great but the sound is unfortunately too bad for my ears. Many years ago I have decided to stop to catch bootleg when the sound is bad even if the music is good, I have noticed that even when the music is very good, the pleasure to listen is not here for me. I will listen to the two others later this week

correct silence said...

Yesterday evening I listened again to one of the 3 lp published by O M C I organico di musica creativa e improvvisata (free rococo) and once again I noticed that the music of this group is really great and deeply original. All lp are available in digital format in lossy or lossless version, qobuz provide the lossless at
https://www.qobuz.com/fr-fr/interpreter/omci-organico-musica-creativa-improvvisata-renato-geremia--mauro-periotto--tony-rusconi/download-streaming-albums
Unfortunately those digital versions comes directly from lp and obviously the Italian pressing of this period were not really good. So depending on the tracks there are few surface noise and some crackles in certain moments. But the music is really fantastic. All three musicians of this band had a very particular sound and it is a pity to notice that the free jazz community almost never mention them.

magogiallo said...

@Magogiallo and for all those who appreciate jazz with world fusion influence. I just remembered two musicians that I was in touch with many years ago:
first is TOM CHESS who previously played saxophone but who switched to oud and ney flute many years ago:
https://tomchess.bandcamp.com

also another musician who made only one record under his name: Brandon Terzik
https://xalamproject.bandcamp.com/album/brandon-terzic-xalam-project

Brandon Terzik also played on one album of Ravish Momin's trio Tarana, the 3 first cd of this band are great, the fourth one is very different. Momin investigate now electro but the two cd on clean feed and the one on note two are great

One more chapter in the too small discography of legendary british pianist Mike Taylor; the jazz in Britain label have just published this live recording of January 1965, few month before the recording of his first album in quartet "pendulum". This live has the same line up and in fact Taylor take very few solos, this performance is mainly focused on the saxophonist Dave Tomlin who is just incredible:
https://jazzinbritain1.bandcamp.com/album/mandala
very highly recommanded for all british jazz fans.

RIP Mark Whitecage.

@ correct silence I am listening Tarang now, great music! Really a beautiful album. Do you think I can share Off Spring by Berger/Keijser? It seems Phono Suecia doesn't exist anymore, but I found an MP3 download through amazon, it is beautiful, different mood from Tarang though.

correct silence said...

@Magogiallo
Normally if it is available in the regular market like amazon, it can't be shared here, even if it is only in mp3. In many case when it is available in mp3 in most places, it is available in lossless at qobuz.
Regarding what you say about some labels that doesn't exist anymore but are still available for download. Most of the time the copyrights have been transferred to a new owner. it is for exemple the case for the swiss label Evasion disques. The brand doesn't publish records since about 30 years but recently a new company has provided remastered digital version of all the catalogue. There are others exemples like this, for exemple WM Box media, the label of italian Drummer Tony Ruscony, is no more in activity but the digital versions continue to be published from archival recordings.

Hat Hut / Ezz'thetic have just published a new chapter in the revisited serie, this volume focus on Mike Taylor
https://www.discogs.com/fr/Mike-Taylor-Trio-Quartet-Composer-Revisited/release/18394447
I'm not sure it is totally legal so I don't know about the sound quality. In this cd you have the complete second album of the Mike Taylor Trio and one track "a night in Tunisia) from the first quartet "pendulum" + 3 tracks coming from Cream for who Mike Taylor composed a bit.
This cd can be interesting in the fact that the trio is available in the complete version. The official impressed/repressed reissue from universal is now totally out of print and very hard to find and the recent lp reissue is a bootleg coming from the cd or from an mp3 version.
Unfortunately like in most case in this revisited serie, the first Pendulum lp is not reissued totally, pity because this lp is incredible. By the way the version of night in Tunisia is one crucial moment of this quartet album.

Ernst Grgo Nebhuth said...

I have the CD from Mike Taylor on ezz-thetics and I would say the sound is realy good. Wether as good as the LP or first CD edition I don't know. But the music is great! And yes - it is a pity that the quartet has not seen a reissue together with the trio outing.

trabukko.59 said...

@correct silence & Ernst Grgo Nebhuth
I recently bought "The Mike Taylor Quartet - Mandala" on Bandcamp: five songs recorded live in 1965 by the same line-up as "Pendulum" and here too there is a shorter but still intense version of "Night In Tunisia". The quality of the recording is perhaps not high, but still good for a live almost sixty years ago. In my opinion it is worth it.
https://jazzinbritain.co.uk/album/mandala

correct silence said...

@Trabukko59
yes I already have this live and mentioned it in this section previously. For a tape that wasn't made for commercial purpose, the sound is really acceptable. I just regret that the version of night in Tunisia is cut before the end but I think this is what the tape contains. it is clear that the version on the live shows that at this time the band have already done a sort of a re-writing of this standard.
To change topic, does anybody have a rip of Mike Westbrook goose sauce, even in mp3, it is just to remain me the sound of the lp.

Clarinetist, saxophonist and flutist LD Levy is in the process of recording a new album, obviously it will be in duet with Chicago bassist Larry Gray. I don't know when it will be published, probably in several month but he have started to record.

Ernst Grgo Nebhuth said...

Thank you for the info - I'm curious what Levy will come up with.

Here is something cool the was on dime at one point. Thanks to all the tapers, transferers and uploaders and anyone involved in this one.

There is a post here at I-Sol from the day before these, that i have requested a reup of.
https://inconstantsol.blogspot.com/2015/10/peter-brotzmann-dudu-pukwana-john-zorn.html

But I don't see this one here...

Both these sets are quite stellar. I can't say enough about any of the players on either of these two performance. Misha, Han and Dudu. A wild and rambunctious set (as usual) from that trio. The second set is equally mouth watering. Derek Bailey, Johannes Bauer, John Zorn, Peter Kowald.

Cheers.

Hello, I am very interested in the music of the AACM 35th Anniversary Music Festival and the three-day lectures organized by the Umbria Jazz in 2009. Unfortunately, the resources you shared are no longer available. Could you please upload and share again? For a moment, I would be very grateful.

this Don Cherry live is famous and have been issued on cd in 2018, some say that the reissue is unofficial, others say that it is authorised, the music is absolutely fantastic and the sound too.
The cd version have a slightly better sound than the bootleg that is floating on the web since years, it have originally a real good sound

Hello everyone. I'd like to ask if anyone has a recording of the Quintet Moderne's 2017 concert from Weikersheim, which was broadcast by Radio 3 in 2018;

https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0b48rnb

And possibly by other radio stations - SWR2, perhaps?

Many thanks!
