LA MONTE YOUNG "THE WELL-TUNED PIANO 81 X 25 6:17:50 - 11:18:59 PM NYC" (GRAMAVISION, 1981)

I have this rip on a dvd-r - so probably you can listen to this only with a dvd-player (no video only audio) or directly from the pc.
It's a lossless rip plus a pdf of the 26p. booklet.

And you might like to read an article/interview about the task of transferring the music from the original tapes........here

  2. Gosh - many thanks, onxidlib - this is one of the pieces I've heard/read a lot about, but never heard, so I'm looking forward to listening to this.

It may just be me, but there seems to be something wrong with
the VTS segments of the rip. They won't play. However, the
hard work and thoughtfulness are appreciated.

  5. Hi Dark Matter - please specify what do you mean with the VTS segments?
I shall check it and if necessary I'll do a new rip and upload.

  6. @onixidlib:

Specifically, the VTS_VOB files of the DVD. These files contain
the navigation and playback info for the DVD. They allow you to
skip chapters during playback (i.e Well Tuned Piano I-V), or select
an alternative starting point for playback (i.e. Well Tuned Piano III).
These capacaties are not now operating in the rip as is, so some of
the files stay in pause mode when loaded and hence does not load.
So, the DVD doesn't go back to the BUP file to get a new code to
launch. It just stays in the pause mode. The DVD file works, but
the VTS_VOB files don't play. (File III does play, however.)

I hope this helps. The best thing to do is for you to download
the set from 1 Fichier and attempt to play the internal VTS_VOB
files yourself, you'll see them so designated inside the folder.

    Tomorrow I'm back at work...

  8. I've just completed the download and unpacking, and have begun to listen, using the 'DVD player' application on an IMac. I can see a menu with 5 parts, by using the commands Go - DVD Menu, and this seems to navigate to different points in the 5 hour sequence. Hope this helps, Dark Matter.

I'm about 10 minutes in now, and this is lovely - will report back when I'm at the other side ;)

Thanks for the info! I'm on a laptop that plays
DVD, and there is no menu. It's good to hear
that you have the navigational menu, as you
should. It could be the case that my DL is
    corrupt. I'll start over.

I'll go with Tantris's comment, so unless someone else
states an issue with navigation don't bother until then.
My laptop plays the Video TS file and the 3rd & 4th
VTS_VOB files. I can get all of the music from the
TS file, I just navigate through the distinct chapters in
the menu. None of that affects the pleasure of the music.
Besides, I have other rips of TWTP; but I have to admit
the idea of a DVDRip is tantalizing. Thank you for all
    of your generous shares.

Don't know why Tantris is navigating successfully
and I'm not, but here's my situation. I have
several pieces of software that play DVD, each of
them is telling me that the file is corrupt and
won't play. One software will play the audio of
the main file but won't navigate. Can't explain
why Tantris' download is working but mine isn't.
Perhaps it's just my particular download. Would
    love to hear from others.

  12. Thanks onxidlib but 1fichier is still not working for me. When I open 1fichier and click on the page all that results is popup ads. No matter where I click on the page, this is the result. If there is any possibility of posting elsewhere I'd appreciate being able to hear this.

  17. I'm late in the discussion, but it doesn't work for me at all. I've downloaded the whole thrice and anyway I get always the same message while using Winrar :

"LaMonteWell.part02.rar:LaMonteYoung_Well-Tuned Piano\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_1.VOB - Le fichier est cassé ou un autre fichier partagé est nécessaire.
    Une erreur est survenue."

(which means more or less : "the file is broken or another shared file is necessary. An error occurs.")

I'm so sorry to bring back this issue. Am I the only one to face it ? I'm lost.

  18. I am having the same problem. One of the files is broken and the unzip action always fails.

  19. I have flacs of these discs if it will help. Let me know.

  20. Thanks Andy for your offer. I'm uploading the whole to zippy right now. It will be finished tomorrow I believe - 9 x 200 MB.
I dl my own 1fichier files upload several times without being logged in - and it worked without the problems mentioned by some of our friends.
Not only the dl but also the unpacking - wether with win-rar or 7zip.

Hopefully my new upload will solve the problem. And yes - your flac will be appreciated although the files I'm uploading are not only lossless but are offered in excellent quality.
My friend A. who made the rip from the original by himself is meticulously working on all his rips. Sometimes obviously much better in sound than the available CD reissues.
He transferred the music onto a DVD 'cause the music is meant as an uninterrupted event.
    Thank you!

  21. Perfect ! It works perfect now !!! Thanks a lot for you help, Onxidlib. And I confirm the sound is a high quality one. I'm going to rip the whole on a dvd too. Thanks again for your efforts !!
