Mary Halvorson Quintet ~ ~ Cormòns, Italy, 26th October 2014

This is an absolutely red hot set from the Mary Halvorson Quintet. It sounds a lot like free jazz, but I can hear waltzes and reels, and snippets of folk music throughout. I hope you enjoy this!

Mary Halvorson ~ guitar
Jonathan Finlayson ~ trumpet
Jon Irabagon ~ soprano & tenor sax
John Hébert ~ bass
Ches Smith ~ drums & percussion

Cantina Renato Keber, Cormòns, 26th October 2014

Broadcast on RAI3 FM; 24th July 2015

  1. In the last year, I've become enamored of Mary Halvorson and all her lineups. I haven't seen her, and since I've moved back home to Seattle (from New York), I probably can't: so thank you!

  18. Thanks for the three recordings, softnucleus. Two have expired, but I'm listening to the Pharaoh Sanders now, and it's good.

  19. I neglected to thank you for posting this beautiful set by Mary. Always a joy to listen to her play whether she's the bandleader or playing in another group. Belongs to my list of "Badass Contemporary Guitarists" along with Nels Cline, Joe Morris, Henry Kaiser, Joe Baiza, and so on.
