Charles Mingus Quintet live in Bremen 1975

I thought I'd follow up on the recent spate of Don Pullen (and George Adams) postings with this set from a live concert in 1975. Here we have Pullen and George Adams as part of the Mingus Quintet, obviously from a European tour, as there are other tapes in circulation from this year.

Close to two hours of goodness here. All classics and with ample space for the band members to stretch out. Listen in on the first track for some extended Pullen solo work, for example. Walrath is fairly new to me, so any added info is welcome.

  2. Excellent! Looking forward to hearing this band live.

Jack Walrath has had a long career and played with just about everybody, usually (it seems) at the fairly adventurous edge of mainstream jazz, like Mingus and various Monk projects. His home page is jackwalrath.net. A fantastic avant-garde album that he's on is Muhal Richard Abrams's big band record Blu Blu Blu on Black Saint.

  4. This is an almost complete live version of the two 'Changes' LPs from 1975 (only 'Orange Was the Color' is missing here).
The concert was recorded by Radio Bremen and last broadcast in 1995.
