HERES A CONTINUATION of posts of OOP early david murray, this is a great one murray is phenomenal on this considering he was barely out of his teens.
and fred hopkins and phillip wilson, are simply unique one of the best rythm sections around at the time in this very free setting.
this features the definative version of deweys circle,a tune murray apparently still occasionally plays.
i disagree strongly that the tunes are unmemorable.

This LP contains tenor saxophonist David Murray's first full-length album as a leader. At 21, Murray already had remarkable technique and these explorations with bassist Fred Hopkins and drumer Phillip Wilson are quite adventurous. The opening "Extremininity" is an intense unaccompanied tenor feature, Hopkins takes "Dedication to Jimmy Garrison" as his showcase and the other three pieces are full of interplay by the full trio. None of the compositions themselves are that memorable and some listeners may find Murray's screams and screeches (which he would modify a bit in later years) to be a bit too emotional, but this was a strong first effort.

    Outstanding. Thank you. I love D Murray and I haven't heard this one. And I'm equally excited about the Air album. I've read a bunch about them and have been looking for their discs for years but I've never found one. and thank you for posting them MP3 too. Can't wait to check these out. what a way to kick off monday morning.

    I always enjoy your posts. Good to see you have turned to Murray. You'll be lucky to find a copy of Peace Church. It’s one of only three Murray LPs I haven't been able to track down for a decent price. One ebay seller has a copy for $40 plus $15 postage to the uk. If I could get $30 in subscriptions I’d buy it and post it for everyone! Let me know if you need any others.

    this has always been a favourite of mine.
    hopkins and phillip wilson could play with anyone and make it sound good.
    but murray of course is one of the greats.

    Murray's output is so mixed it's sometimes hard to come to terms with how his records become duller instead of gaining sparks. It seems the abilities he got as a youngster, all those Aylerish squeaks and Webster-Shepp kind of attitude towards the blues feel a lot more fresh on his earlier discs. Afterwards, there's too much repetition, and even his bandmates, though most of them are stars in their own right, frequently perform below their level.
    That said, it's nice to have another of David's early albums. I would very much like him to freshen up and act again as this freaky, forceful young fellow he's once been.

    This has always been one of my favorite David Murray albums. As I no longer have a working turntable I haven't heard it in years. Many thanks for the Mega link; Rapidshare is virtually unusable these days with a 5-6kbps download speed for free users.
