ReplyDeleteThanks Ernst!! This looks interesting. I appreciate the chance to hear it. Cheers!!
ReplyDeleteHello Ernst. Re Jazz and Buddhism. Does Steve Lacy's 'Underline' count? It's not actually a project and there are no monks but a 'spiralling repetition, on 5 beats, of the Japanese Buddhist mantra 'Nam-Myo-Ho-Renge-Kyo'.
ReplyDeleteOn two records pianist Masahiko Satoh used some Monk voices but it was pre-recorded, the tracks were not built around the recitation. But there is something close to this record, it is one track by the band Tymon I Trupy created by Tymon Timansky who was also bassist in Milosc. In this Band Mikoaj Trzaska was also playing, here is the link

ReplyDeleteRe: "I know only one other project which mixes Jazz with Buddhist chanting":
ReplyDeleteActually, there's "Tantric College" by Octurn & the Tibetan Monks of Gyuto.
Shame on me, Pierre is right, I totally forgot Octurn, I played it in my program one year and a half ago. But Octurn goes deeper in the meeting in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteThere is another CD by Octurn & the Tibetan Monks of Gyuto : Kailash (It does not appear in Discogs)

Any chance of you posting Bardo State Orchestra - Wheels within Wheels?

ReplyDeletecorrect silence, what is your program and where can I hear it? thanks. bill
ReplyDelete@Bill
ReplyDeleteThe program is called "jazz and co" and it is broadcasted on french radio campus Paris, a generalist radio for students and alternative culture.
the special page of the program is here:
https://www.radiocampusparis.org/jazzandco/
From now to September 24th we are on the waves every friday from 8 pm to 9 pm french time. Since September 24 we will go back to our regular time every two mondais from 10 pm to midnight.
if you want to listen on direct go here
https://www.radiocampusparis.org/listen.pls
But be aware that it is not a jazz radio, it is a generalist program with one special program on jazz, so if you don't listen at the time of jazz and co you won't hear jazz!
I can't wait to hear this one! I have been trying to get the link to work for me since you posted it, but it only worked today and now the link has expired -
ReplyDelete"Expired Link / Lien Expiré
The link your requested is expired.
You must use and follow original 1fichier.com links to access your contents. "
That was quick! If you have time to re-post that would be awesome.
