Here's a lovely Japanese flavoured chamber Folk-Jazz session (with some free improvisation) led by Hozan Yamamoto, very reminiscent of mid 70's Oregon, perhaps even inspired by them up to a point...
I'd certainly have mistaken the guitarist as Ralph Towner in a blind fold test!
And a dash of early 60's Jimmy Giuffre.
Gorgeous tunes too.
Hozan Yamamoto -Shakuhachi
Yasuo Arakawa-db
Ryo Noda-Saxophones
Sadanori Nakamure-Guitars
released by yupiteru in 1980
Enjoy!

Ps , i recently finally found the correct belt for my turntable, which is now running much more accurately.

thanks a lot, dear Sotise.
ReplyDeleteit does work with gven d/l password, but the hoster itself... i'm waiting when some more active and angry individuals kick away the contents from the skulls of 1fichier managing board members...
anyway Hozan Yamamoto is worth listening. even in his shakuhachi-violin duos with Isaac Stern on Japanese folk melodies recorded for Columbia.

ReplyDeleteThank you very much for this! I've really gotten into Hozan Yamamoto's adventurous releases. Perhaps you have the ones with Chris Hinze?
ReplyDeleteAll the best,
no i don't have any with chris hinze i did once have what i thought was a very corny one ,veering between easy listening exotica and bossanova, i gave that to a friend... the only others i have are cds, of more traditional Japanese music which are in print..
ReplyDeleteTheres a great one called Mugenkai with Gary peacock from 1990, which has never been reissued would be nice to have that in lossless if any one has it.
Sotise, once again, thanks for posting this. Yamamoto is one of my learning experiences from visiting this site. So, thank you.
ReplyDeleteUtterly fascinating. Thanks, sotise.

Many thanks - and no problems with Mega.
ReplyDeletehi sotise, the records in collaboration with Hinze I was thinking of are Kyorai and Keden, both recorded in 1974. They both seem pretty interesting but I always respond well to interesting cover art.
