UN-RELEASED RECORDINGS 1960 - 1985 (no music...)

Three weeks ago I bought the book "Free Jazz And Improvisation On Vinyl 1965 - 1985".
I was a bit disappointed but as an 'addict' I enjoyed it notwithstanding its shortcomings and mistakes.
And the 'mistakes' prompted the idea to collect all known information about never released LPs (or cassettes et.al.).
In the book there's a section about Po Torch Records - Paul Lovens' label.
An insert which was included in some of the releases (e.g. Rutherford-Lovens JWD/PTR 3) had an announcement for six (two in the book) LPs which never made it onto the turntable...

I would like to suggest that we confine ourselves to the period from 1960 to 1985.
Maybe we should - at least for a start - list only items which are related to Free Jazz.
Items which are circulating as bootlegs of these elusive sound carriers are welcome as well - we are looking for NIP (never in print) issues which would/could/should have been official releases.
As much information as available would be nice: line-up, title, recording-date, track-titles, label etc. - maybe we can collect some data for a discography solely made of recordings which were never edited.

Here are the first few un-released recordings..........

  2. But I would love to hear them! Some of those listings really whet the appetite. Who knows, maybe one or two will actually turn up.

  3. I've always been intrigued by an unissued Ornette Coleman record on Blue Note cat# TOCJ-4375

  4. I remember one FMP-insert lists an Albert Mangelsdorff Quartett/Quintett-release from circa 1974/75 (probably live in Berlin) instead of "New Jazz Trio - Alternative Takes" (so that would be FMP 0039 i.i.r.r :)

  5. Da da da... But, but, "It Is Revealed" HAS been released. OK, 100 copies, no cover - still, that's more copies in circulation that the average Bengt Nordström album :)

Sonny and I missed the opportunity to reissue it when Prince Lasha was still alive. Now it's in limbo, and public domain anyway...

  6. Thank you Matthew and Anonymous for your input.
Also thank you J. for the correction concerning "It Is Revealed". I knew about the 100 copies but had in mind that it wasn't issued.
A proper re-release would have been appreciated - at least on my side.
The same goes for the Francois Tusques LPs which are already released "La Reine des Vampires" which I enjoy quite a bit.
Looking forward to the upcoming stuff on Finders Keepers.
NOt at least I recall an announcement about a former 7" from Tusques, Don Cherry, Beb Guérin and Jenny-Clarke: "La Maison Fille Du Soleil"...which will be reissued as a LP with more music from the session....

  7. The Gunter Hampel Song Book vol.1 lists some discographical details for certain compositions.

    among those:
    "Composition 130" (rec. birth 014)
    "Unity Dance" (rec. birth 013 & 014)

Birth 014 doesn't exist (neither does 015, but that's beside the point here)

The chronology of Hampel's "opus" numbers and the birth catalogue from numbers 013 (June '73) to 016 (January '74) suggests 014 would have been from around late 1973.

It most likely would have been another LP of the Galaxie Dream Band, since Composition 130 is scored for an ensemble (C,C,Bb,Eb,trombone, cello, bass) - likely featuring players also present on "Unity Dance" (013) and "Out from Under" (016).

    so that's something like:
Gunter Hampel Galaxie Dream Band from late 1973 on birth 014!

  8. @Onx: look forward to the day I can proudly announce you "IT IS RELEASED". Pun aside, I wonder why no reissue label has picked it yet.

I can confirm "La Maison Fille Du Soleil" is on its way for release before the end of 2014 too...

The topic of unreleased albums... so much dreams shattered... a tough one.

  9. Just wanted to mention that It Is Revealed and SME Double Trio Part 1 have been shared here on IS:

    http://inconstantsol.blogspot.com/2014/03/spontaneous-music-ensemble-unreleased.html

Also, the liner notes to the 2000 CD re-issue of Ornette's Dancing In Your Head indicate that Columbia shelved a double LP collaboration between Ornette and the Master Musicians of Joujouka. Anyone know if this material ever been bootlegged?

  10. La Maison Fille Du Solei!!!!! I'm really looking forward to hear this finally. Did everybody notice Don Cherry's release Modern Art by Swedish Mellotronen label? Live set from 77. Really nice release but I don't like that there are different tracks on cd and lp edition. With this kind of treasures I would prefer complete set.
