Paul Bley Trio-Canada 1968

For an Australian friend...
A great Paul Bley trio session, put out by radio Canada international transcription service, recorded in Montreal in December 68, i believe this was Bley's last  entirely acoustic release from the sixties and for some time until ECM'S, Open to Love, last in a glorious sequence spanning ten or so indispensable records, and one of the few which has never made it to cd ..

Four great tunes by Annette Peacock , his wife at the time, with Mario Pavone's only stint in Bleys acoustic trio.
For some inexplicable reason this album is not mentioned In the Paul Bley entry on the Jazz discographies project site.
this album's been posted as mp3's at lucky psychic hut , and may well still be available somewhere in that format.

  2. Nice, and thank you - but just FYI, it's not true FLAC. It's been upconverted from mp3. Spek shows the same as the other site's 320.

  5. Awesome, thanks! I've always loved Bley's 60s records. This is a real gem!

  6. Thanks for the primo Bley SOTISE. Never thought I'd run into this one. Back in January matt w requested Improvisie in the comments to your Dual Unity post. I've taken the liberty to upload a CD rip.

I'd also like to renew my request for Bley-Peacock Synthesizer Show - Revenge: "The Bigger The Love, The Greater The Hate" If anyone can share this rarity in lossless I'd be over the moon.

  8. SOTISE, Mr. Joy would be aces. I return to Bley & Peacock over and over again. Gotta say your vinyl rips have been incredibly satisfying and very much appreciated. The one under consideration here and the lost Lacy tracks couldn't sound any better! Many thanks, ~Robert

  11. Thanks for Sharing Chris , but i guess a "good rip"is a matter of taste and opinion, your rip is way too over worked for my taste , i just don't understand that level of heavy handedness, the piano at times sounds like some gleaming metallophone, not natural at all.

  12. @ SOTISE thanks for your opinion my copy was quite a wreck and noisy and back then I didn't quite understand the nuances of ripping. I look to yours for comparison.

  13. Very nice indeed, thank you very much for this. fwiw, most of jazz lp's released by Radio Canada International that I've seen (and there are some great ones) have CANADA emblazoned prominently on the stock cover art, so I doubt that's really the actual title of the album. But anyway. Great stuff!

  15. Any chance of a repost on this? Mario Pavone passed away last week, I'm planning a radio show tribute to him and it would be great to include this very early collaboration with Paul Bley as well as the Trio Arc recording some 35 years later! Thanks in advance ... N
