DEREK BAILEY and MIKE OSBORNE. Soho Poly, 1978

















The sound quality of this recording is considered too poor to become an Incus release, but Derek's partner Karen has kindly given her blessing for this piece of history to be shared and enjoyed for what it is.
So, major thanks to her and of course to my good friend Gus who was savvy enough to take his cassette recorder along to the gig back in 1978.

    Andy, what can I say? 2013 ends in a wonderful way with this post of one of my heroes, the one and only Mike Osborne. What a big surprise! Who knows what 2014 will bring... In the meantime a big thank you!

    Wow, it really is Christmas. So looking forward to this. Thanks to those already listed and a special mention for the late Verity Bargate who ran the Soho Poly and whose help and kindness enabled me to put on a series of concerts at the theatre sometime between Derek and Han's "Live at Verity's Place" (Incus 9) and this recording.

    The date of this recording fascinates me. The two had obviously worked together early in the 70's when LCJO's "Ode" was recorded and again for Wheeler's "Song for Someone". By August 78 the first Company Recordings, with Lacy and Braxton etc, had been made, the duo with Tony Coe was soon to follow. Mike Osborne had made all his Ogun recordings and recorded with SOS. What set of circumstances brought the two together again at a small venue in Central London in late 78? Such wonderful days, I'm glad I was present for much of it.
