  2. Thanks onx. Always good to hear Christmann, especially in such splendid sound. I'd not heard of Dutton before, so I checked him out on youtube. Like many improvising vocalists he seems ...well..insane.

  3. Glad you enjoy the music and sound, Andy.
It's an audience recording from a friend who used to visit the festival frequently.
...and yes - improvising vocalists are an aquired taste - I like them for some time and then I have phases when I try to avoid such outings.
The human voice is a very special instrument. It might blend with other instruments or not - one is always aware that it isn't a 'proper' instrument.
But of course vocalists have achieved stellar performances. Some of them could be described as a hn apex of human expression.

  6. Thanks. Don't know much of the aggregation but will try it.

I'm with you on the vox. There are very few vocalists I like in improv or even more straight-ahead jazz. Many I can't tolerate at all. I think it is a learned skill to get into as a listener... I tend to feel vocals are best left to music where a vocal aspect (in a narrative sense) is the centerpiece a la rock, blues, folk, singer-songwriter. Most of the straight ahead jazz ones tend to confuse the instrumental and narrative approaches which really bothers me. Sing or don't, but please don't blend it into some inchoate warble that is neither.

  7. It looks like a celebration after war. The photo reminded me of the audience at Hitler's speech.
