BOBBY WATSON'S TAILOR MADE BIG BAND - AFROISMS. GLASGOW 1994
A slightly less than perfect recording off the radio - I just found this cassette which used to get a lot of play in my Walkman at work. With no info on the cassette, I had to google to try and find some details. I found a review of the concert which said the music didn't hang together, was under rehearsed and too long. Well you could have fooled me! Bobby Watson composes some of the most attractive music in jazz and this concert was really fantastic (in my opinion). Enjoy.

I have a copy of the band's albums on Red and Columbia but who knew this was out there? Thank you very much, Andy!
ReplyDeleteI saw Bobby play quite a bit in the 80s, in 29th St and small groups and always enjoyed his playing. Now I'm only 19 years out of touch!
ReplyDeleteThanks again, any more live recordings from the UK are more than welcome

I agree with you about this concert, Andy. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteMega works well and fast, but Zippy is OK too.
Totally agree with you: uplifting stuff! Didn't know the man played his music with a big band. One more UFO but, thks to you, Andy, we can get a good idea of what we missed. The torture never stops!
ReplyDeleteSince the Messengers era, Bobby was shining with soul & musicianship. One more proof. The reviewer must have been sleepy that night!
Thks as always

Always a joy.
ReplyDeleteThanks. Bobby is always nice to hear.
ReplyDeleteBTW I tried the Zippy but none of my programs could interpret the split archives or figure out how to put them back together. From personal experience I tend to divide the archives myself rather than let a program arbitrarily split them mid track. That always seems to be where any problems develop. Anyway RS seems it may be working again (knock on wood) so I'll try that.
mega link still works!
ReplyDeletegreat SUPER band!
what a guy!
thanks andy!
