ReplyDeletethanks for this marvellous post. Great to hear the old stuff from the RSA exiles.

This looks amazing! Masakela and Dollar Brand back in the day!!! Many thanks for the listen.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful and historically important record. I suggest one listens to Jazz Epistles, then one of the Joe Harriot-Shake Keane 5tet, then some early Ornette with don Cherry and one will realize that there was definitely something in the air. I don't think any of them try to copy the other, it's just that they were moving in a similar direction, independently on three different continents.
ReplyDeleteA flat-out historic LP. Simply cannot return to this often enough.
ReplyDeleteA seminal one, for sure!
ReplyDeleteWonderful Music, thanks!
ReplyDeleteSomehow I never heard this one. Looking forward to it--thanks!
ReplyDeleteThanks. I'd been wondering about this since becoming aware of it some time back. Vintage to be sure... and nice.
ReplyDeleteCurious from any who may have other versions if the occasional distortion here is on the original or an artifact or mastering this edition? Given the time and place and technology it certainly may have been in the original recording (since it seems to only crop up on the loudest parts). The overall sound is good but the transients nag the recordist in me.
Dommage! Les links ne fonctionnent plus!...
