ReplyDeleteAwesome show! had it on tape for years, enjoying it and the album immeasurably! This is not the place to get into Malfatti's near-silence schtick-Bozo is not pleased with spending $40+ on a japanese double album with 2 half-burps on it! I would rather think of the awesomeness of this band in full flight. Gumpert and Oxley are in magnificent form, the clarity and execution of their ideas stunning.This is free jazz at the intersection with improv and the result needs no intellectual analysis besides "Whoa!!!"
ReplyDeleteExcellent stuff. Is Malfatti using a lot of electronics?
ReplyDeleteI don't think Malfatti used any electronics at all.
ReplyDeleteTony Oxley should be the one responsible for it.
See also the instrumentation for the FMP LP "Ach Was!?" :
Ulrich Gumpert-piano;
Radu Malfatti-trombone & pipapo;
Tony Oxley-drums, amplified violin, live electronics
What 'pipapo' in detail might be I don't know - the term is used in daily life for: "this and that".
I haven't heard this expession since more than thirty years now.
Maybe extinct or used only in different parts of Germany.
You still hear 'pipapo' regularly here in Berlin.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the music too!
