I have the vinyl of the other Altena lps posted, including Tuning the bass, but not this!! It is incredible. Whitehead was way off in New Dutch Swing saying he was not a great bass player. He was one of the best, his technique is strong and clear and this album is a good place to hear that. Amazing. Thanks for this one!! Keep the Altena lps coming!!

ReplyDeleteNever took time before to concentrate on the music of Maarten Altena but recently listened to some quartet, octet and now to this duo. The meeting between chamber music, 20th century classical and folk is very interesting. Proof that beside the confrontational way à la Brotzmann there are many others ways of expressions for the european musicians.
