This post completes the documentation of a double performance by the G.Lewis Ensemble at the end of April 1979 in Verona (see
AD/DE and
GL/RT).
The same Ensemble that recorded "Homage to Charles Parker" for
Black Saint : the two long suites / compositions are clearly an
extended version of the songs on the album.
Special thanks to my dear friend Mr. Zero who recorded the concert.Rec. live at "Sala della Guardia", Verona, Italy,
on April 30, 1979 (mics recording)

ReplyDeleteCool, thanks.
ReplyDeleteThanks Riccardo. This is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWOW. The excerpt is part of a live version of "Homage to Charles Parker," half of one of the greatest albums ever (and -- plug -- available for less than $2US as an MP3 download at Amazon). Thank you so, so much.
ReplyDeletethanks Riccardo ,love that album so im Looking forward to this!
ReplyDeleteThank, I have an mp3 (256 k) of this same quartet in Paris early March of that year and it is quite a good performance. Homage is one of my favorite records - they hit a beautiful ethereal groove on it...transcends genres like all great music should. d/ling this now, can't wait to hear!

ReplyDeletecould you upload the concert in Paris?
just excellent, thanks riccardo!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like there's a jump seven minutes from the end of suite 2 (in the FLAC).
ReplyDelete@ matt w
ReplyDeleteyes, at 39'23" of suite #2, side A
of the cassette ends and the recording restarts on side B : few seconds are missing.
Ah thanks -- just wanted to make sure I didn't have a flawed file or something.
ReplyDeleteThanks again for this lovely music!
Here's the Paris concert I mentioned earlier http://www.megaupload.com/?d=1P9L37NT. I don't remember where I got it...it is a 256 kbps mp3, so a lossless version would be preferred. This is the same quartet from March 5, 1979 - I'll also upload a quintet from a couple months later (Moers, June 2, adding Wallace McMillan on flute.
ReplyDelete@ waggadventure
ReplyDeletemany thanks, mp3 but very good quality, probably a broadcast.

When I listened "Castle of Ghana" I searched all his recordings, but it's so difficult listen his music of those years live.

Thanks Kinabalu, it is a beautiful music. In those years I listened George Lewis with Anthony Braxton... terrific music! Is there some live recordings by John Cater Octet? His Gramavision recordings are amazing.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jazzer3ogun
The re-up of the Lewis-Teitelbaum concert got me really excited about the whole ensemble concert too. Is there any chance for a re-up of this? Thank you very much in advance.
ReplyDeleteNew link:
ReplyDeleteMega
That was really quick. Thank you very much kinabalu.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kinabalu for the re-up!
ReplyDeleteThis is a really amazing show! I've always thought Lewis was one of the greatest foils for Douglas Ewart.... Loved seeing Ewart play with Fred Anderson,Nicole Mitchell and his own projects, also. A really unique voice for sure.
ReplyDeleteThanks kinabalu.... and a cheers to Riccardo. Amazing document! And recording quality:)
BIG THX!...
ReplyDeleteThe link is down again, could somebody re-up it? Thanks!
