Miles Davis Quintet; Antibes, July 1963

This is a liberated boot,"Côte Blues", featuring the Miles Davis Quintet at the Juan-les-Pins Jazz Festival in July 1963. The sound is excellent - it's from an FM recording - and the music is sensational, with the quintet in top form. Since picking this up from dime earlier this week (thanks to othmar1956 for seeding), it has been on constant rotation, and I hope it gives you some great music to enjoy over All Saints this weekend.

    Thanks! Excellent choice, & excellent lead-in to another request:

    Anybody out there got the Davis sessions from his "lost quintet" at a bitrate higher than 192? BigO has them posted right now & they're great; I highly recommend them in any form for fans of Bitches Brew-era Miles. (Although this is not the exact group that recorded BB, they do play a number of tunes from the record).

    (Just to clarify, these would be the Rotterdam, Rome, & Ronnie Scott's sets from 1969.)

    A high quality version of a relatively recent BBC broadcast of the Rotterdam 9.11.69 set was posted on Dime not long ago, by one ... Tantris88! Well-known to us all here, without the mathematics.

    The Rome 27.10.69 set has been issued on a silver boot CD, and also earlier on vinyl, by the Moon label, (mis-identified as being from Paris), and also on the Jazz Door label.

    The Ronnie Scott's 2.11.69 set has never appeared (to my knowledge) in any better form than the original 1969 BBC TV broadcast, i.e. rather low-fi.

    Bear in mind also that at that time, the band normally played two sets per night.

    Thanks, Tantris! I knew that this was floating around on dime but I've been having some trouble w/ my torrent software. Think I might give up on it.

    In any case I'm very happy to hear this again in the superior form.

    A couple of notes:

    The first track is not All Blues, but So What.
    The third track is Seven Steps to Heaven and Walkin' combined.
    The fourth and fifth tracks were recorded on 28 June, not 26 June as indicated on the back cover of the cd.

    This is an unofficial release, so should be OK here.
