To complement Sotise's post of "Manhattan Cycles", here's another one of the five Revolutionary Ensemble records. Note that the other Revolutionary Ensemble 1975 record originally issued on the group's own RE: label as "The Psyche" has been recently transfered to CD format by Mutable Music.
If interested, don't forget to take a look at the documentation post for a link to an audio interview with Leroy Jenkins & Marilyn Crispell also containing music. The post has also been updated with scans of William Parker, Trevor Watts & Peter Kowald interviews.
Short on time again so please excuse the lenght of my post !
Enjoy,
Pierre

ReplyDeleteThere is never, ever enough of these fine gentleman. You generally have to pay out the nose for India Navigation, too. Many thanks!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the music and thanks again for the FLAC files.
ReplyDeleteCheers from Mexico City
Curious record, this one. Quite diverse. The title track sounds like one of those Ocora ethnographic recordings from Central Africa, when the thing was probably recorded right in the middle of the urban jungle of New York.
ReplyDeleteThanks, nice to get this digitally. I had this album at one time, and sold it, as I did many records, in the mid '80's. I kept The Psyche, which I preferred at the time even though they're both alleged to be from the same sessions. Of course The Psyche has since been reissued, whereas this one has not made it to CD. This is better than I remembered. The title track used to annoy me, but I like it this time around. Hopefully, someone will give this an official release.
ReplyDeleteI'd never heard Manhattan Cycles before, nor the recently reissued concert from 1978, which I recommend.
I never had the chance to see The Revolutionary Ensemble, but I have fond memories of Jenkins solo, duo with Oliver Lake, and with his electric band Sting, whose one album fails to capture the magic of the concert I witnessed. His playing had so much soul and lyricism.
fantastic blog
ReplyDeletehello everyone
ReplyDeletenew here in this world. not with the music. great site. lived in eastern-europe till 1986 so jazz hot was the only source for info. not for the music also. i feel like i started a new life. the various live recordings in unexpected combinations r real treasures. like waldron and hill or the 3 alto saxes with lake?.
the flac files for this r not working. i know i'm late to the party. but maybe some left overs, beyond the mp3 will be great.
thank you. i have the last album, Revolutionary Ensemble, before they broke up. from 1978. recorded in austria. it is inner city 3016. looks impeccable. if u r interested let me know.
i hope to become part of this great group.
sorry nad3170. i learned in the meantime to read all the comments. found the flac links. tx
ReplyDeleteAny chance of reposting the FLAC files? It looks as though they have expired.
ReplyDeleteI second that request.
ReplyDeleteOh please oh please. Sound quality matters, you know.
Another request for re-up please.
ReplyDeleteI heard this lp years ago at a friend's place and remember Leroy Jenkins' pitches sliding sharp and flat within the scope of where the notes were meant to be, creating an in-and-out-of-focus effect. Such a cool idea !
I remember other parts of this being really head-scratching. Would really love to hear it in FLAC !
Flacs would be fantastic...pleeeease
ReplyDeleteI would also like to for a re-up of the FLAC files. This album is amazing!
ReplyDeleteI too would love a flac copy of this, my vinyl wore out many years ago. Thanks
ReplyDeletePlease repost this masterpiece!
ReplyDeletepleeeease
ReplyDeleteanother one request for flac!
ReplyDeleteIgor

Thank you for making available a very clean, beautiful DL of "The People's Republic" by Revolutionary Ensemble! My favorite of theirs from that decade, yet it hasn't made it to CD. I love that album so much that, on separate occasions in the '90s, I bought two nice radio discards (meaning they were untouched), in case one of them got worn out or damaged. I don't think I've done that for any other album, a-g jazz or otherwise.
