Drew Gress Quartet - Live Recording (about 2001, in London I think)
Drew Gress: bassTim Berne: alto saxCraig Taborn: pianoTom Rainey: drumshttp://rapidshare.com/files/40014590/DGress.rar.html FM broadcast ripped at 224kbps. About 1 hrs playing time, split into 2 untitled tracks. I don't know very much about Gress, but he seems to have played all over the place, including in Tim Berne's band, so perhaps this concert was Berne repaying the complement.
The weather's dried up a bit, but more rain is expected tomorrow. Low lying areas are still under threat as the rivers fill up off the hills.

Very good ! Thanks Boromir. It sounds like a first class audience recording. I had a bit of discussion on the repertoire tonight, with a friend who is more connaisserur on Berne's compositions than I am. He thinks the first piece is Jalapeño Diplomacy...I can't confirm that, but I'll try to get more info...
ReplyDeleteAre you shure that the pictured is Drew Gress? Uhmm From where come this pic? uhmmm
ReplyDeleteDrew was introduced to a large adience via Sound Aspects (Germany) Paul Smoker Trio (as replacment from Ron Rohvoit). He is a guy who comes from the "Corner Store Syndicate"
I suspect this is from the gig reviewed here:

which would make it 2002. It might not be, but I can't find a record of the quartet having come over the year before...
oh, and the first tune isn't 'Jalapeño Diplomacy'
ReplyDeleteThis is a picture of Darek "Oles" Oleszkiewicz, a bass player who lives in Los Angeles. Darek has played with, among many others, Lee Konitz, Joe Lovano, and Brad Mehldau. His site is www.darekoles.com
